The next morning Merida woke up earlier than usual, and thought about what had happened between her and Jack the night before.
'Was it a dream?' She thought to herself. Jack had hated her all these years, or so she thought, but maybe Mavis was right after all.
Merida got dressed in her robes and decided she should probably tell the guys what had happened at breakfast. As quick as she could she walked out of her room and towards the great hall where breakfast was being served, out of breath she sat down next to Astrid.
"Jeez someone's hungry." Astrid laughed as she looked at her panting friend.
"I have something to tell you and its crazy so just don't interrupt and listen, okay?"
"Uh...okay what's up?"
"Last night Jack kissed me and I kissed him back and it happened so quickly but I think I liked it and I'm pretty sure he liked it too."
Astrid stared at Merida, awestruck.
"Merida, since when do you make out with Jack Frost? I thought you hated each other?"
"We did, well I don't know I thought we did." Merida looked down with a small smile, remembering what it was like the night before.
"Oh my God you like him don't you? This is huge! You have to tell Hiccup and Rapunzel."
"No! I don't know, I'm gonna tell them though."
At that same moment Jack walked into the hall with Eugene at his side, Merida stared at him waiting for him to look over at her.
When he did, Merida smiled at him but it was not returned. He just ignored her and looked away.
Astrid watching the whole thing saw how Merida looked upset and confused.
"I bet he didn't see you Mer, don't worry about it! Why don't you talk to him later, aren't you at Quidditch practise later after Slytherin? Talk to him then."
"Yeah I will." Merida waved goodbye to Astrid and walked out the hall to get ready for her lessons of the day. If Jack was so up for kissing her last night, why was he completely blanking her now?
**********************************************
Later that day after lessons had finished, Merida had some free time before Quidditch practise (in which she is a seeker) to tell Hiccup and Rapunzel what happened.
"I knew it!" Rapunzel shouted with a smile across her face.
"But Rapunzel he did ignore her this morning." Hiccup said looking concerned.
"I know that's why I'm worried to talk to him."
"Oh Mer! Don't worry I bet it's nothing, finally we can go on double dates, for sure this time."
"Hey what about me and Astrid?" Hiccup said faking being upset.
"Yeah you guys come too, triple dates!" Rapunzel squealed.
"I don't know you guys, something seems off about it."
"Yeah Merida, remember what you and Jack have been like all these years..." Hiccup started getting a punch in the arm from Rapunzel, "all I'm trying to say is he's pranked you many times before, why wouldn't this just be another prank? Just try and not get your hopes up, just in case."
"I think you're right Hiccup, anyway I have to go you two, I'll see you later?"
They both nodded as Merida walked towards the changing rooms to get ready for Quidditch.
When she got there she saw Jack walking out the door amongst some of his Slytherin team mates, she walked right up to them confusing a lot of them when she said "Jack can I talk to you?"
Jack noticed the looks on his team mates faces; they were giving Merida strange looks.
"Uh...what do you want frizzy?" A few of the Slytherin students laughed.
"Jack please...just, we need to talk." Merida was struggling; she didn't understand why he was being so rude all of a sudden.
"Yeah alright." He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand and followed Merida off to the side.
"Jack, what happened last night? Did you mean it? Why are you acting so weird now all of a sudden?"
Jack looked over at his team mates watching him, amused.
"Nothing happened last night Merida, I don't know what dreams you have of me but they aren't true."
The Slytherin students laughed, but Merida looked at him, disgusted. He was embarrassed, that's what it was. He didn't want his friends to know he kissed her.
"You're really shitty, did you know that?"
Merida pushed past him and stormed into the changing rooms where she saw Astrid, the team keeper already changed.
"What's up Merida, did you speak to Jack?"
"Yeah I did, he's a piece of shit." Merida spat as she roughly got changed into her kit.
"Woah, what just happened out there?"
"He pretended like it never happened, so his team mates wouldn't judge him. He made me look so stupid, Astrid." Merida tried so hard not to cry with frustration.
"Oh Mer," Astrid said hugging her, "You know what this means?"
"What?"
"It means we have to beat Slytherin when we play them on Saturday."
"Damn right it does." Merida felt a little better, her and Astrid walked onto the pitch with brooms in their hand ready for practise.
When practise was over, Merida walked back to her dorm ready to go and chill, all the events that took place today just made her want to sleep it off and focus on winning the Quidditch game. She walked into the dorm room to be greeted by Mavis who said that she'd talk to her in her room in a minute, when Merida asked her.
Merida walked down the corridor to be greeted by Jack as he walked out of his room.
"Hey!" He said as he walked towards her smiling.
"Save it Jack, I don't know what's going on in that brain of yours but I am not one that someone can mess around with. What you did today, ignoring me was really shitty and I'm not having anything to do with you."
"Merida please let me explain." Jack laughed, confused at her outburst.
"No. You embarrassed me today in front of your little puppets, just because you were too humiliated of me by what happened last night." Jack looked guilty and stepped backwards, not having anything to say. She walked past him avoiding touching him in any way and went into her bedroom closing the door behind her.
A little while later there was a knock on the door.
"Merida can I come in, it's Mavis and I brought hot chocolate!"
"Sure Mavis, come in."
Mavis walked in with a bright smile on her face as she sat next to Merida on her bed.
"Here you go, I'm the best at making hot chocolate so enjoy it!"
"Thanks." Merida took the mug off Mavis and put it on the side, looking irritated.
"Merida is everything okay?"
"It's Jack, you were right, kind of. Well I thought you were right but it turned out I was wrong." She babbled.
"Right about what?"
"Jack liking me, last night he kissed me but then ignored my all day so he could seem *cool*" Merida lifted her fingers and made speech marks when she said cool.
"Really? That idiot! I'll say something if you want Merida, who does that? Eugh!"
"I'm as annoyed as you are but talking to him will just make things worse, thanks though." Mavis nodded at Merida showing her support.
"Beside, I'll beat him at Quidditch on Saturday and really embarrass him then." Merida chuckled at this.
"You know for once Merida; I want Gryffindor to win Quidditch other than my own team." The two of them laughed as they spent the rest of the evening drinking their hot chocolate and joking with each other. Merida felt as though she'd ended the worst day ever, pretty damn good.
I feel like it's getting like a little cliche or whatever that they've had a fight but I needed something interesting to happen, so yeah here it is chapter 5. Enjoy!
