When I woke up, the first thing I tried to figure out was where I was. Looking to my right, I saw a craul's head and knew I was in my room. Looking to my left I saw a chair which hadn't been in my room before. Next I tried to figure out why I had passed out in the first place and remembered Jenny. I looked to my left again and smiled. Jenny must have been worried about me. I remembered she always put me before herself when we were kids, then I remembered that I remembered my childhood. This really confused me because I thought I had grown up on Earth ever since I was born. I guess I had to ask my mom about that the next time I saw her. Getting out of bed, I looked in the chest at the back wall for some new clothes and saw a necklace and a note on a pile of clothes.
The note read,
"Breve. I'm sorry I couldn't stay until you woke up. I had to report back to the capital for my next assignment. I hope we'll meet again soon.
Ps. Before you and your mother left, you gave me that necklace to remember you by. Maybe it'll help you remember too.
-Jenny
The necklace had a round, darker than blood, gemstone attached to a gold pendant. My initials were engraved on the back of the pendant. It was on a brown leather cord, which complemented the elegance of the necklace with it's simplicity. Seeing it didn't bring back any memories, but I guessed it might in the right situation. I decided to put it on and noticed that the pendant was warm only when I wore it, strange. I decided to change into the clothes at the top of the chest, which happened to be clothes similar to the ones Kane had been wearing when I first saw him.
After I had changed I got up and went over to inspect the craul head on the wall. Looking at it closer, I noticed that the fur looked extremely rough and warm. When I touched it, it felt more like burlap than fur. I found that interesting. When I reached the end of the hallway, I heard bits of a conversation coming from downstairs. I started walking down the stairs, listening to the people talking. I heard two voices, one was Jim's and the other belonged to someone I've never heard before. Before reaching the bottom of the staircase I made sure to close my left eye, just in case.
When I walked in, the first person I noticed was Jim.
"Ah, Breve. Good morning."
"How long was I asleep for?"
"A few hours. You don't need to worry yourself."
Looking around, I noticed that there was no one else down here. I found this extremely odd since I had heard someone down here just a second ago.
"Was there someone down here with you?"
"Yes, there was."
"Did they leave already?"
Before Jim answered I felt someone tap my shoulder. This surprised me, but not enough to make me open my eye. Turning around I saw a man who was slightly taller than I was. He looked like he could be someone's grandfather, yet he also looked young enough to have just turned thirty. I looked between Jim and the stranger and noticed that they had a slight resemblance. I guessed that they were probably related. I wondered if they were brothers.
