Shaun's POV
What the fuck is so difficult for her?
She found all her little friends. But then she has the nerve to phone the police? That was a little bit sly of her. So I was going to make this game slyer.
I had watched the police and ambulance come into view and I gritted my teeth as I saw all of them being taken care of by the police and ambulance crew. I saw Louis. Liam. Harry. Zayn. Perrie. Lou. But no Kate.
I smiled as I thought for a second that she might have been that much of a coward to leave with them. I pushed off the window and continued down the corridor and listened to the rain that was still pounding off the roof. The basement will probably be well and truly flooded now.
I sighed and opened the door that I had left Niall in. He was sitting in the corner and he stood up when I came in.
"Change of plan, Niall, your friends have escaped, the police and ambulance are here," I said and his eyes widened. God bless his soul. He thinks he's going to get out of here alive.
"One surprising turn of events is that your girlfriend isn't out there, she's still here, looking for you," I said, a smile playing on the corner of my lips.
"And your going to lead her here," I said and then I raised my gun quickly, pulled the trigger and shot him in the arm and he screamed in pain, grabbing his arm. I walked out of the room, closing the door behind me and hid in another room until I saw Kate run into the room.
I walked down the stairs and I opened a small cupboard in kitchen. I pulled out a packet of firelighters and I stacked them up against the kitchen door, the kitchen windows, the front door and the windows in the room in the ground floor. I then took out a box of matches.
I lit matches, dropping them on the piles of firelighters I had left around the house. I dropped the last match on the pile of firelighters and I watched the orange flames, lick up the wood of the door and the glass started to crack with the heat. I smiled and I took my hiding place.
I would wait for them to come down the stairs. I would wait to see the fear in their faces as they realised they will not be able to get out. And I would wait to kill them and I would wait to see the life leave their eyes.
And I would enjoy it.
Kate's POV
I ran up the stairs, three at a time and opened the door, where I thought Niall's cry came from. I gasped when I saw him. He was clutching his arm where there was blood seeping through his closed fingers.
"Niall!" I exclaimed, running over to him, dropping to my knees. He coughed and he opened his eyes.
"Kate!" He said and he used his other arm to pull me in close to him.
"Niall, I..." I started but he stopped me.
"Shhhhh..." He said and I put my head into the crook of his neck, wrapping my arms around his shoulders.
"Did he shoot you?" I asked him and he nodded, gritting his teeth in pain.
"Let me see it," I said and he moved his hand so I looked at his wound. It was deep. Very deep.
"Should we take the bullet out?" He said and I shook my head.
"It's too dangerous, babe, it could have hit an artery." I said and I ripped a piece of my jumper off, wrapping it around his arm, tying it tightly. He hissed in pain, closing his eyes and gritting his teeth as it was tightly tied around his arm.
"I'm sorry, Niall," I said, a tear falling down my face.
"You think this is your fault?" He said, touching my face gently and I nodded, my forehead resting against his.
"I couldn't protect all of you and now... you have got hurt and I don't know where Shaun is and... are we going to get out of here alive?" I said, more asking myself the question than Niall, but he moved a hand round to the back of my head and his lips met mine. He moaned into the kiss and I moved my hand gently through his hair, tangling it between my fingers.
This is it. This is what I've missed.
Niall wrapped his uninjured arm around my waist, pulling me closer. He kissed my forehead and I placed my head against his chest.
"I love you, Niall," I whispered and he kissed my forehead again.
"I love you too, Kate," he said and then I smelt something. I pulled away from Niall standing up. It smelt like... smoke.
"Do you smell that?" I whispered and after a minute, Niall locked eyes with me, his eyes widening.
"Shit," he breathed and I grabbed his hand, pulling him to his feet.
"We need to get out of here," I said, keeping a tight grip on my gun. We ran out of the room and clambered down the stairs and I stopped dead in my tracks. This place was surrounded in smoke.
"Check the front door!" I cried to Niall and I ran to the back. Flames were licking up the back door, blocking our escape from this way. I ran back out and Niall came back, shaking his head.
"There's no way out!" He said, coming back towards me, and he opened his arms slightly. I turned around and looked both directions, but there was no way out. Except...
The basement.
"Niall, the basement," I said, gripping his shirt in my hands.
"What about it?" He asked and I shook my head.
"There are doors that lead to outside," I said, starting to cough as the smoke was entering my lungs and I was starting to find it hard to breathe proper air.
"Kate!" Niall said, tilting my chin to look at him.
Then, a gunshot rang through the corrdior. And I looked down at the wound in my stomach, blood seeping through it quickly,
I looked down at it, my breath started coming faster and my legs collapsed from under me, Niall following me down to the ground.
"Kate!" He yelled, tears starting to appear in the corners of his eyes. He took his shirt off, the piece of my jumper still tied round his arm and he placed it against my stomach, leaving him topless.
"How does it feel?" I heard someone shout and I turned to see Shaun.
"Why did you have to call the police? This didn't have to be like this," Shaun said, a disturbing smile on his face.
I started to hyperventilate and started to cough more. My stomach was burning and the blood was seeping vastly through his shirt that was pressed up against the wound.
"Start to stand me up?" I whispered to Niall and he nodded.
"What do you mean, it didn't have to end this way?" I yelled at Shaun, "you were going to fucking kill is anyway!" I yelled and he threw his head back, laughing.
"You're real smart aren't you?" Shaun said, walking slowly towards us.
"Niall, start to walk towards the door on your right," I whispered to him, and his uninjured arm was wrapped tightly around my waist.
"Maybe I am," I said, slowly moving one of my hands to my gun, which was in my pocket.
"I say you're pretty stupid," he said, and I started to break out in a cold sweat and I pressed Niall's shirt, harder onto my wound.
