Happy Birthday

A totally normal day...well, not quite. It was Alex Rider's birthday and when anything has the name 'Alex Rider' in, well, things are certain to get messy.

I'm late.

Alex dashed down the stairs - then ran straight back up them once he realised that he still had his pyjamas on.

I'm late. I'm so, so late!

He quickly took his top off (somehow managing to rip part of the arm) and grabbed his school shirt and pulled it over his head, trying hard to not look at his bullet wound.

Why? I'm so late! I'm gonna get into trouble...

He popped his trousers on and ran down the stairs and grabbed a bowl. He poured the cereal (which was Coco Pops, if you were interested) into the bowl, walked into a door on the way to the fridge and got the milk. He, once again, poured the milk into the bowl, got a spoon and ate the cereal as quick as he could.

Jack's going to be SO annoyed with me when I come home later because of a detention...

The phone started ringing.

Please no. No! It can't be...

Alex reluctantly picked up the phone, silently begging that it wouldn't be who he thought it was. But Alex Rider didn't have the best of luck and what he didn't want to happen most likely would happen and vice-versa.

Not a mission, not a mission. I don't DESERVE a mission right now.

"Hello? Mr. Rider? Mr. Blunt would like to speak with you about your account. Let me put you on with him..."

He shouldn't have wished that it wouldn't be them. He has bad luck. If only it couldn't get worse.

"Ahh, yes, Alex. We have a small mission for you. A simple one, should last two hours at most. I hope to see you at the Royal and General soon so we can discuss?"

Alex almost growled at the voice before grounding out, "Fine, Blunt, I'll come to the 'bank', but I'll have you know, it better be short, I have a maths test today!"

Blunt put down the phone and sighed. Well, at least he was coming.

Damn it, I'm going to be late for school. And Mr. Bray said that there was an important assembly today too! I'm so doomed.

Alex parked his bike up against the wall of the bank and placed his complicated looking lock and chain on it.

Well, at least my bike won't be stolen any time soon. I bet I've jinxed it now.

Alex strolled inside and walked past the lady at reception into the lift. "Excuse me, sir, you've got to make an appointment before going up," the lady protested.

Why? It doesn't even matter, wasn't she the one who rang me in the first place?

Alex turned his cold brown eyes to her. "I just got a phone call," he began, narrowing his eyes at the security camera that was plainly in sight. "It said that I needed to come about my account and that I should go up as soon as I get here. So, if you don't mind, I'll be going now."

I really shouldn't have scared her like that. Oh well, anyone associated with Blunt deserves it.

"Hello, Alex," Blunt said smoothly as he walked in.

"Blunt," Alex nodded his head, not really caring at that moment in time. "Mrs. Jones," he said, slightly smiling at her, before returning his face to his usual emotionless look.

I wish I hadn't tried to kill her... But if I hadn't and kept training with Scorpia, I really would be an assassin.

"So, Alex, your mission today is to go to your school-" Blunt began, before Alex angrily interrupted him.

"So I could've gone to school and you could've told me then!" Alex yelled and started shouting curses in different languages.

Mrs. Jones waited for him to calm down and she continued where Blunt left off. "Your mission is indeed to go to your school and - act normal, as such. There will be a few MI6 agents acting as assistant teachers, so if you recognise any of them, don't show it," she said primly.

Why...

"Scorpia has made a threat against you and your entire school," Blunt stated, well, bluntly.

Why!

"They decided to ignore the deal we had made and as a result are moving in and using more action than necessary," Mrs. Jones added.

No.

"You will be our main agent there and, in other words, will be helping take care of the threat," Blunt carried on as if there were no added in comments.

But then-

Alex voiced his thought aloud. "But then won't my cover be revealed?"

"Exactly," Blunt finished.

Nope!

"What was your deal with Scorpia anyway?" Alex asked, trying to keep the curiosity out of his voice.

"If they tried to attack you we would reveal that they - the most ruthless criminal organisation out there - had been defeated by a mere fourteen year old twice," Mrs. Jones replied.

Alex nodded.

Alright, now to leave and just about get to school in time for the assembly.

He left the room abruptly and exited the building. He undid his bike chain (making sure that nobody was watching him) and cycled as fast as he could to Brookland School.

Almost there....almost there!

He quickly locked his bike and ran into the school, half pulling his jumper on.

I bet it's already started.

Alex bounded into the school, then stopped and looked at Miss Bedfordshire sheepishly. "Er...yeah, hello Miss Bedfordshire. I'm sorry that I'm late..."

Well, I'm sorry that I'm a teenage spy that the government uses because there's 'no one left'.

She smiled at him and gently said, "It's alright, dear. Now run along to the assembly hall, I'll just check you in."

Alex nodded his head gratefully and continued sprinting to the hall, inwardly hoping that he wouldn't make an entrance.

Of course I'll make an entrance, I'm Alex Rider!

He pushed open the doors and entered the hall, acting calm.

It's alright, they can't see me, they don't know I'm here... That'd be nice.

Curious eyes watched Alex as he entered the hall and sat down in his seat. "Er...sorry, sir," he apologised to Mr. Bray.

He shook his head, a meaning that Alex took as 'I'll see you after'.

Tom stood up and walked toward Alex.

Oh no... Please don't embarrass me Tom.

"Happy birthday, Alex!" he yelled, other people joining in just so that they could shout in assembly.

"What?" Alex asked, confused.

Tom rolled his eyes, exasperated. "Check the date, dummy," he said.

Alex did so and raised his eyebrows. "Wow - I didn't realise. Thanks, everyone," Alex smiled in gratitude.

Tom glared at him. "You're going to come outside with me right now and explain why you didn't know it was your birthday. See you soon, sir!" Tom said sternly, suddenly reverting back into politeness when he was addressing Mr. Bray.

I'm not going to come out of this alive...

That was Alex's last thought as Tom, to his mortification, dragged him out of the hall.

Hi guys! It's me, coming at you with a new book! This probably won't be updated as often, please send in things you would like me to do! Also, this idea was TOTALLY RANDOM, I don't have any idea how I came up with this... See ya!
