Laura Remington is woman beyond her time. The daughter of the town Mayor, Laura could have been the wife of a nobleman. Instead, she chose to study the arts of midwifery. She's saved countless lives in her years but now, when her father mysteriously disappears, Laura pretends he is too ill to be out and among the townspoeple to avoid chaos in the little town. The tiny girl who gave him a fur blanket and food, when no one else would, and had unknowingly saved his life.
He hopes to rescue her and keep her for himself but Laura is fiercely independent and wants nothing to do with being a kept woman by a man that struts around as a pompous monster. Donovan, now a King to his people, is used to getting what he wants, and keeping it. But can he keep the human woman, the enemy of his people? What will she do when she discovers who he really is and who he is holding captive floors below her?
