Day before the dance

Chapter fourty-six

Kristen's POV: I'm at Alli's house today which means I won't see Ashton on the bus which sucks! But it's almost time for the dance! I'm going with Avery unless someone asks me. "Kristen, time for school." Alli says opening my door. I yawn and get up. "I don't wanna go." "Too bad you're going, I have to take Chaz to the doctor." I sigh and stand up. "Fine." I grab my clothes and walk to the bathroom. I decided to wear a dress to school today. We are having Fancy Friday. I put on my floral dress and nude flats. Since my dress is strapless I have to wear a cardigan. I curl my hair and put make up. I walk out of the bathroom and grab my school bag and hipster. I go down the steps and walk into the kitchen. "Awe, your growing up so fast." Alli says, hugging me. I roll my eyes and sit down at the table. "I'm only in seventh grade, you have five years till I graduate." She sits next to me and hands me a piece of toast. "Thanks." I stand up and put on my bag. "Are you leaving already?" I nod and grab the toast. "Bye, love you." Alli says hugging me. "Bye." I go to the front door and she follows me. "No, 'I love you too'?" I shake my head and close the door. I don't know anyone in this neighborhood except for my family. I walk to the bus stop alone. When I arrive at the bus stop I see Caleb. "Caleb? You live in this neighborhood?" He nods. "My dad lives here, my mom lives closer to the school. It's the neighborhood by yours." I nod and smile. When the bus arrives I get on and sit next to Caleb. "You going to the dance with anyone?" Caleb asks killing the silence. I nod, "Avery, who are you going with?" "No one, yet. I'm waiting for the perfect moment." I nod and smile. I text Avery the whole time telling her about Caleb. She is super excited. Once we arrive at school I get off and find Avery. She squeals and hugs me. "I can't wait!" She says jumping up and down. "I know! I hope Ashton asks me!" We walk to our home rooms and I sit next to Rylan. "You look happy." I say sitting next to Rylan. She nods and smiles, "I can't wait for the dance!" I laugh and read my book, 'The Fault In Our Stars' I love that book. I've read it three times already.

When it's finally lunch I sit go to my new locker and get my lunch box. "Hey Kristen." Ashton says smiling. "Hey." I stand up and we walk to lunch together. He hands me a note and a pen on the way. "Read it." He smiles and I take the paper. I open the note and read,

'Will you, Kristen Trippy, check yes and go to the dance with me?'

I smile at him and check a box. He takes the paper and smiles. I checked yes because he is the guy I would want to have my first dance with, besides Charles. He grabs my hand and smiles again. We go into the lunch room and sit across from each other. "So, anything happen?" I ask Avery. She shakes her head no and I frown, "nothing." "He will ask soon, guess what!" "What?" She sits up looking excited, "Ashton asked me to the dance!" She squeals and stomps her feet. "OMG OMG OMG OMG!! Really?!" I nod and she grabs my hands, "imagine you and Ashton dancing, maybe even a kiss!!" I stop and my smile fades, I shake my head, "or a friendly hug, that will work too." We both laugh wen the boys come back and Ashton smiles at me, oh how I love his smile. After lunch we go to gym and get changed out for the first time. We go out and do our warm up which is stretching and jogging. I talk with Reagan and jog with her. Once we finish out warm up we go outside and play soccer. I blocked a ton of goals! It was a lot of fun. After soccer we went back inside to go dress back into our clothes. Once we hear the bell we all go running to our lockers and classes. "Kristen, wait!" I hear someone yell, grabbing my shoulder. I turn around and see Caleb. "Hey, I was, umm, wondering if you would go to the dance with me?" I feel my face get hot and my cheeks turn red. What should I say to him? I feel like everyone is staring at us. I turn around and walk to fifth, leaving him alone in the hallway. He wasn't going to ask Avery? I can't believe he asked me! I can't tell Avery, it's just a secret between me and him. I walk into fifth and sit in my seat. My cheeks are burning hot. I put my hands on my cheek and Reagan looks at me. "What's wrong?" She whispers leaning over. "Nothing." I shake my head and read my book. I'm still in shock. I put my book away and we start a pretest for fiction. Finally the bell to sixth rings and I walk down the hallway to Language Arts. I walk in and Caleb is already at the table, looking at me, upset. I sit across from Avery and she also looks upset. Ashton smiles at me and grabs my hand. Caleb sighs and takes out his LA book. I frown at him and Avery. She must be sad that she didn't get asked. During sixth Caleb would look up at me and I would smile back. He passes me a more near the end of class, 'I'm sorry I asked you, I didn't know. What can I do to fix it?'

'Ask Avery, she was disappointed you didn't ask her.'

I hand him the note and he nods. He takes out a paper and draws two boxes, a yes box and a no box. He writes something on it and slips it in Avery's purse. I give him the thumbs up and the bell rings. We all stand up and walk to our buses. Ashton grabs my hand and walks me to my bus. We aren't even officially dating yet and we are at the first stage. I let go of his hand and get on my bus. I sit next to Caleb and give him a high five. "Hopefully she will see it!" I say smiling. She will be so excited to see the note. "She will call me tonight, I know it." While everyone rides in silence, Caleb and I listen to We The Kings. Once I visited Canada, which is where my ex-family lives, no one knew who We The Kings were! I almost died. Everyone was looking at us weird because we were singing 'Check Yes, Juliet' oh how I love that song. Once the bus stopped I got off the bus with Caleb and he walks to my house. "I need to meet your dads friends! From WTK!" Caleb says as we enter my house. "MOM!! IM HOME!" I yell throwing my bag on the floor, Caleb does the same and we walk into the kitchen. "Who's this?" Alli asks pointing to Caleb. "Caleb Bass, he rides the same bus as me." She raises her eyebrows and smirks. My cheeks get red and I glare at her. "Hi, nice to meet you." He says holding out his hand. Alli shakes his hand and smiles. "You seem, umm what's the word oh yeah, nervous, why?" Alli says sitting down. "Well, I watch Charles' videos and listen to We The Kings a lot." She nods and smiles. "Can he ride the bus home when I go to Charles' house?" I ask handing Caleb a juice. Alli shrugs, "ask your father." "Ok." I take my phone out of my pocket and text Charles. "He said its fine." "Ok, you can stay till five, work on homework or watch tv ok?" We both nod and go to the living room. "She acts different then in the vlogs." I nod and roll my eyes, "totally different." We work on our homework then he has to head home. "See you tomorrow." I say closing the door. "So who's this Ashton?" Alli asks when I sit down at the table. "Who told you?" I ask staring at her. "Melissa, now who is he?" She sits across from me and crosses her arms against her chest. "A friend of mine." She nods, "more?" I shake my head and stand up. "What's going on?" I shake my head again and leave the house. Why would Aunt Melissa tell her? I roll my eyes and sit on the grass. "Kristen, I'm not mad. I'm happy for you... Did he ask you out?" I nod and look up at her, "today he gave me a note to see if I would go to the dance with him, I said yes." She pulls me up and hugs me. "You're so grown up." Alli says laughing. I smile and hug her back. We both walk inside and my phone starts to buzz. "Who is that?" Alli asks pointing to my phone. "Avery, she got asked out to the dance by Caleb." I sit down with Alli and the twins. We are actually having dinner as a family, a broken family that is and I love this broken family.
