Chapter 4.1 - This Kitten Is No Pussy.

My heart stopped, yet jump started at the same time. The only words that I managed to say were, "What the damn hell?!"

He tilted his head like a confused puppy and his eyes widen once he realized what he said, "But not like that!" He chuckled nervously, waving his hands to say 'you got it all wrong.'

"Then what exactly did you mean? If you meant to nearly give me a heart attack, you clearly delivered your point!"

I placed my hand on my chest, still feeling my heart still pounding against my sternum. Of course he didn't like me that way. Guys like him don't like girls like me.

He rubbed his forehead and sighed. "I like you, but I don't like you. It's just as I told Lucy earlier, I like how you don't take anybody's sh*t." He explained. "You're different."

I scoffed, slightly offended. "Thanks, it's good to know that I'm," I made air quotes, "different." I said sarcastically.

He smirked at my overreaction. "Sometimes different is good and in this case, it is. I usually just had to pout a little bit then let my accent make the girls swoon or drool or do a mixed hybrid of the two like that blondie earlier. I like how you don't fall for my British charm so easily."

I tried my best not to smile at the comment he made about Britney. I raised an eyebrow at his last sentence. "British Charms? I don't think that fully explains why you want me to win over Zane."

He straightened up in his seat. "I will admit that part of this involves me feeling guilty about your car. The other part that makes me want to do this is the fact that being your boyfriend for a few minutes doesn't really make up for all dates you're willing to bail me out of. So― "

I quickly finished his sentence. "―You're gonna one-up my idea and try to get Zane to snap out whatever spell that wicked b*tch has over him?" I laughed at the thought. "You're funny, but things like that don't really work in real life, you know? Besides, Zane isn't really my type." I lied, laughing harder to cover up my terrible lying skills.

He laughed, but not in the ha-ha kinda of way, it was more of a hah-f*ck-no way. "Please, the way your face lights up like freaking Christmas morning when you're talking to him, tells me otherwise."

"First of all," I held up one finger. "My face doesn't 'light up like Christmas morning' when I see him." I stuck up another finger. "Secondly, he's my bestfriend, of course I would be happy to see him," I lifted a third finger. "Thirdly, who I like is none of your business! So I will have to kindly turn down your offer, Mr. Jude Parker."

He laughed. "I seriously thought that you'd at least consider the idea. Zane's your bestfriend, right? So I bet you have a case of the childhood crushies."

I arched an eyebrow at what he said. "Childhood crushies?" I repeated.

"Yeah, childhood crushies. You know, the kind of crush that never really fades away? I bet that you like him and seeing him wrapped around Britney's finger makes you want to punch her in the face. I bet that you don't want to convey all of your feelings because of the fear of it breaking your close friendship or the mere fact that you're afraid of him rejecting you. "

How the hell does he know all this crap? There could only be one explanation to how he knows what a girl's feeling. I gave him a sideways glance. "Are you gay?" I said in a low voice so that nobody else could hear me.

He opened and closed his mouth like a fish, blankly shocked at my sudden question. He furiously shook his head denying my assumption. "I'm not! What the f*ck makes you think that?"
