My phone buzzed in my pocket as I lay down, silent on my bed. I took it out, it was my mum great. It was a text talking about racist shit, some vamp pissed her off for getting her coffee order wrong.

"Calm down woman!"

"I will not calm down that blood sucker is a disgrace!"

"Jeez louise you are racist..."

"I still don't get how I brought up a son like you!

"What! A disappointment? A wolf that likes vamps?

"Exactly! It's like you love one!"

"Okay, too far"

"And maybe it's because I don't give a rat's ass if someone is a vampire!"

                                                                                  "Matthew Ashfur! How dare you!"

"bye"

I fucking hated my family, always putting pressure on me and making sure I never made eye contact with a vampire. I hear a knock on the door, "OPEN!" I yell, thinking it was Rocket back with the pizza we ordered but it wasn't. Ruby rushed in and slammed the door shut, making me shoot up."Ruby?" I say, she covers my mouth while furiously shushing me. I looked at her confused, she slowly removes her hand from my mouth giving me permission to speak."What was that about?" I ask, scratching my neck nervously."Sorry Matt I just... Alec sneaked into my dorm and tried....." she froze. She hugged her arm nervously, looking away. A wave of realization hit me, jesus fucking christ!"Oh my god, ruby! I'm so sorry," I gasp. She started tearing up, I bit my lip. I don't know why but I didn't like that she was crying. Without warning, I hug her, she was shocked at first but eventually melted into the hug.

Ruby POV: I was crying as I felt muscular arms wrap around me. I flinched but hugged back? This was obviously wrong, a werewolf and a vampire and the fact our surnames are meant to hate each other. It was like Romeo and Juliet in a way, lets just hope we don't die in the end.
