"Face reality, Deku!"
"You need to face reality, young man."
Face reality.
After All Might had gone, I stood on the roof for a few minutes, thinking about what he'd said. It was sound advice, but that didn't make those two words hurt any less.
Eventually, I came down and started for home again, wondering how I'd explain to mom why I was so late.
I guess I wasn't paying attention because as I turned a corner to take a short cut, I ran into a man wearing a dark hoodie.
He fell down, grunting as he hit the pavement.
"Oh- I'm s-sorry," I sputtered, "Let me help you up." I offered him a hand.
He only grinned. "I was hoping I'd run into you, Izuku Midoriya."
A chill went down my spine as I backed away. "How do you know my name?"
"The quirk registry and a bit of snooping." He picked himself up and dusted off his pants. "It's not exactly rocket science tracking down a quirkless kid."
"And what exactly do you want with a 'quirkless kid'?" I asked bitterly.
"I want to help," he smirked, holding up his empty hands to show he meant no harm. "Aren't you tired of being treated like a third class citizen? I mean, even villains are better off."
"What do you mean?"
"At least villains earn the hatred of society. You haven't done anything, except been born."
This odd blue haired stranger had a point. "And you're going to help how?"
His grin widened. "What if I told you that I knew someone who could give you a quirk?"
What? "Th... that's impossible. I mean, how...?"
"Does it matter how? I'm offering you a chance to be normal."
It sounded too good to be true. "What's the catch?"
"No catch." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a card. He held it out to me with only two fingers. "If you decide you want to take our offer, this is how you find us."
I took the card and flipped it over. All it had on it was a hand written phone number.
"But don't take too long," he said as he turned and walked toward the wall, a shadow forming as he approached. "Ninety days from now, the offer will expire and you'll remain quirkless little Izuku Midoriya."
Then he walked through and disappeared in a swirl of dark mist.

One creepy back alley encounter and I was given a chance at the one thing I always wanted.
