The sceneries were breathtaking. We were in the countryside. We had been driving forever down a narrow road. I had been staring at the trees on either side. Misty forests. Not a soul to be seen.
My mom held a English - German dictionary. My brother had his music on. I had my diary open.
We finally passed one house, another, and another. Soon we were driving through a small town, small houses, not many people.
"Oh this is going to be exciting." I exclaimed, sarcastically.
"It's only for while I promise" said mom.
The cab driver slowed the car and pointed at a building. Is that the new home I wondered. He said a word that sounded like school. So we just all nodded assuming he meant school.
"Only 40% of the population speak English here" my brother mentioned it for the millionth time. "I'm sure its much less in this small town" he continued.

The cab finally stopped moving. I kept my palm on the cab window next to me. My palm print stained the misty glass. My eyes widened and jaw dropped seeing the large gates.
When I was getting off the cab and pulling my bag out, I heard someone open the lock on the gates, from behind the gates. The cab took off.
As I turned the gigantic gates opened, revealing an old, massive, three story building. My head tilted up and my jaw dropped once more. I stayed frozen like that. It looked something like an old hospital.
"Bloody hell" my mother exclaimed. I averted my glance at her making me realize it wasn't just me, we all wore the same startled expression.
"Eerie " Aaron stated.
"Sinister " I added.
"How about we go back home and live on the streets instead." said Aaron. I smiled.
"I was about to say that" said mom. She then chuckled while walking towards the man who opened the gates. He was middle aged. About my father's age. They spoke for a moment, I watched my mom's smile being replaced by a sadness as she lowered her head. He handed my mom a bunch of keys.
"How many rooms does this place have?" I asked voicing my thoughts.
"15 on each floor" the man replied. "I suggest you all to not use the 3rd floor and the attic, it hasn't been colour washed or cleaned." he stated. Aaron and I gave each other a look suspicion.
"We assumed two floor would be enough for three of you. You can still have ten rooms each." he continued smiling.
I was about to ask if it was an old hospital but my mom spoke first.
"Daisy, Aaron, this is Mr. Lehner, a childhood friend of dad's." said mom, introducing us.
"Please call me Henry" he said smiling, shaking my brother's hand.
He then walked up to me and shook my hand. "You have the same blue eyes as your mom" he said, forcing a smile. I gave him a weak smile in return. "Yes. I have a Jewish heritage, ironically." replied mom, smiling. He didn't reply, he suddenly turned to leave.
"I live two houses away. If you need anything." he said turning again to face my mom.
"You should make friends with your neighbours, they have three kids about your age." he said patting my head. Finally something to look forward to I thought.
He waved at us and started to walk away. We walked through the gates.
There was an old cement block just behind the gates. It's iron plate was rusted all over, but I could make out the letters carved on it.
"En-g" I started
"Engel Gottes Waisenhaus" mom helped me. She smiled at me.
"Angels of God Orphanage - 1838" she translated, now gazing directly at the building 100 feet away. I joined her gaze. I don't know why but that made my stomach cringe.
