Katia

The previous night

After the paty Ava, Jess and I came back the apartment and we are now in baggy shirts watching Harry Potter eating ice cream. It's like we never left school.

"Justin Bieber, David Beckham or Channing Tatum?" Ava giggles putting her spoon of cookies and cream in her mouth. I grumble.

"I'd marry David Beckham because that's constant sex. Kill Justin and Fuck Magic Mike." I laugh, pleased with my answer. Jessica is still thinking her answer through.

"I'd marry Tatum, Fuck Beckham and kill Bieber." Ava laughs, and we high five.

"Just to be different, I'm going to kill Beckham, Marry Channing and Fuck Justin." Jessica states proudly. We all laugh. I've missed this.

"On a serious note, Kats, how is this play going?" Ava asks without tearing her eyes from the TV.

"It's a showcase, firstly, and secondly, it's harder than anything I've ever done." I laugh, throwing a pillow at her, knocking the spoon out of her hand and her hair to stream across her face in a red wave. Jessica is now lying on the floor laughing and I can't breathe at the way Ava reacted.

"Stupid bitch!" Ava exclaims in fake anger, then throwing her spoon at me, which comes short of hitting my leg. We had to take  minutes just to calm down and regain our postures.

"Tell me about this Brody.." Ava playfully wiggles her eyebrows at me and I cringe.

"What about him? There's not much to say. We bumped into each other.."
"And decided to have a quickie in the bthroom." Jessica plays.

I roll my eyes. " No! We walked and talked and then we did it again. Then i got his number. Saw him at the party. Spoke more. Asked him to the show. I'm going to his exhibit. Ava showed up and that's all." I realize how little I know about him actually.

Ava does not seem convinced. "And that's it?" she asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Do you think it's going to go further?" Jessica asks from the shine of her cell phone inches from her eyes.

"I don't know. He's really nice and funny but I dont know him, and Drew and I have only been broken up six months, and I actually saw him the day that I met Brody.." I trail off.

Jessica and Ava's eyes were buldging.

"WHAT!?" They both exclaim.

I then explain about that Monday, beginning with how I woke up late and ending with Charlie's question. Ava climbs onto my chair and wraps her arms around my shoulders while Jess hugs my legs and strokes my slipper, for some odd reason.

"I'm so sorry Katia. Drew has no idea what he's missing out on." Ava says softy.

"Yeah, and fuck him and his stupid tag-along." Jessica pumps her fist in the air.

"We were high school sweethearts. And what if Brody hurts me? I can't take that, not during the showcase and everything happening..." I cry out. This was really shitty timing.

"I know what we can do. All three of us can have a mini-party tomorrow night. Drinks and games and movies. Just us." Ava says. I nod and Jessica squeals.

"Can I bring Hunter?" Jessica squeled, jumping up and down. Hunter was Jessica's boyfriend. He was Jessica's high school sweetheart and he left to go to the army, and he hasn't been the same.We don't talk about it much. It's easier if we don't. He has a muscular build and has brown hair and grey eyes. Hunter told me in secret that he was planning on proposing to Jessica next year at the place they met. He has a ring and everything.

"Yes." I sigh. She runs to her phone and calls him. He shows up an hour later and Jessica and him talk until I decide it's time for bed.

Next day...

I see him standing there. It's starting to warm up, ever so slightly, though it is still windy out. He sees me and scurries to me to give me a hug, and he smells... different.

"Why do you smell like that?" I ask, crunching my nose.

"Oh, it's my paint." he laughs. He opens the door and gestures me to go in first. So gentlemanly.

"Do you want to come over tonight?" I ask before he can even get fully through the door. If Hunter can come, I'm sure it won't be an issue for Brody.  He's taken aback by my suddenness. After a slight pause he answers.

"Yes, I would love to." He smiles and we make it to the front of the line. I get my cappuccino and Brody gets an Expresso. I love coffee, but not pure, with no milk or sugar. We make our way down the street towards the company building. We don't speak about anything particular, just this and that. Art, dance, friends, school. We are by the doors and I say the cheesiest thing I could have said in that moment.

"Well, this is me." I say and we both laugh. It was so cliche.

"I'll see you tonight." I say and he smiles. We hug and then we part ways for now.
