Eliza was trapped in a coma during the expedition, as they found out by Doctor Tavener. He had been lying in the infirmary bed for the past week, as Levi stayed by her side with daily visits by Zachary and Erwin.
Levi was sitting in his usual position - one leg bent over the other as his hand gripped the top of his teacup. He hadn't left in days - he don't even leave the room because he wanted to be there when she woke up.
There was shadows under his eyes due to lack of sleep, and he couldn't keep his vision straight. He glared at the sleeping Eliza and stayed there til the end of the day.
That's when her eye began to flicker open, to reveal bruises and red marks over her face and across her body after Levi's attempt to rip her out of the Titan. Everything seemed like a blurr as she moved her cast and itched the eyepatch that still covered her left eye. She looked at Levi and smiled. "Hey."
Levi's mouth formed a smile, "morning sleepyhead. Had a nice beauty rest?"
"Beauty rest?" She asked, confused as she furrowed her eyebrows and stared at him.
"You were stuck in a coma after transforming to whatever that was. After some research, Hanji thinks it's a Founding Titan."
Eliza sat up and shook her head. "I can't remember exactly. I just remember Reiner becoming the armoured Titan... Me being with you on the horse and a large explosion."
Levi sighed. "Alright. But just to summarise it, you went badass on the Titans. You looked at them once and their heads flew straight off. You even made Luna surprised!" He said
"Oh." She said and began to laugh. "I will soon remember it anyway."
Levi itched the back of his neck and looked at her. "You know, Eliza..."
"Hm?"
"I... I quite like you, you know?" He said nervously. "Let's just say I normally hate everybody."
"I feel the same way about you."
He gasped. "Really?"
Eliza nodded and smiled. "When all this is over I was wondering if maybe.... Maybe we can discuss what we can do? Like we build a cottage on the countryside in the outside world, you know?"
He nodded. "Yeah. We will do that."
They linked fingers and smiled at each other, promising their new life.
Don't worry... We will have that life together. We just have to wait for you to get better. Levi thought.
