It's Time

"Beep Beep, Beep Beep!"

The sound of her phone continued to go off again and again loudly beside her head on the nightstand. Kelsey groaned it was the third time in the past few minutes her phone had gone off. Couldn't they take a freaking hint? Lifting the sheets off her head Kelsey grabbed her phone sliding the answer thing and bringing it up to her ear.

"What do you want?" She hissed in aggravation her eyes trying to adjust to the light.

"K-Kelsey?" The voice asked in mild fear.

"Yes, who the fuck is this?"

"It's me, Steve Rogers."

"Oh! Steve, hey sorry about that, what's up?"  Kelsey asked sitting up in her bed.

"Fury is wondering if you would come to the Stark Tower today in to meet the team properly?"

"Really?" She said still in a daze from just waking up.

"Yes."

"Alright I can be over within the hour."

"See you later."

Kelsey ended the call looking over at her alarm clock. It was well past eleven in the morning, groaning Kelsey pulled her hair into a tight bun to keep it out of the way. Getting out from underneath the covers, she stretched walking over to her closet and pulling out the quickest outfit she could find which ended up just being a white blouse, jeans, pink flats and a grey tunic cardigan, she finished off the outfit with a white scarf with pink and red flowers. Taking her brown hair with streaks of  blonde from the now very very messy bun she ran a brush through quickly making a part on the far-rightside of her head going down slightly past her shoulders. Grabbing her army green messenger bag Kelsey threw the basics into it; her wallet, face mask, sunglasses, knife, keys, water bottle, phone and laptop.

Kelsey gave herself one last quick look in the mirror, if it wasn't for the bruise on the corner of her face, she would've said she'd looked okay for once. Though it had been a bit over the week since the battle had ended, the bruise looked just as fresh as it was when she got it. This was a norm for Kelsey though, for some reason the bruises she would get always lasted a long time.

Her little freckles were showing themselves as the light hit them, speckled across the top of her cheeks and some around the eyelids of her piercing green eyes. She had a cut across her forehead from the fight too but as long as she kept her hair parted so far to the right it was out of sight.

Leaving her bedroom, she quickly exited her apartment locking the doors behind her. She was on the fourth floor of her building so she slowly started making her way down the stairs pulling her ear buds from her jeans pocket plugging them into her phone and starting to put them into her ears when she exited the building.

She stopped dead in her tracks surprised to see someone was already waiting for her.

"Captain Rogers?" Kelsey called in shock gaining the super soldier's attention. He was sitting against a motorcycle staring in a daze at the buildings surrounding them. The block was like a blast from the past, right from the forties because it was a forgotten neighborhood. It seemed outside of the touch of the modern world. That's probably why Kelsey liked living there so much, that and the fact that the rent was dirt cheap.

At his name he turned his attention to her his cheeks tinting pink when he saw her.

"Miss Blackburn." Steve stuttered standing up straight.

"Please call me Kelsey." She said walking down the steps to stand in front of Steve.

"Y-You look lovely, Kelsey."

Kelsey let out a light chuckled rolling her eyes at him, he cleaned up nice especially out of that red white and blue get up from his hay days. His hair was combed back to one side, he had on a flannel with tan pants and a brown leather jacket. And the fact that he was resting against a classic looking bike, just added to it.

"What are you doing here?" Kelsey asked looking at him skeptically.

"I thought you might like a ride."

"Well thank you."

"Of course."

Steve sat back down on the bike and Kelsey got on behind him. Her hands wrapped around his waist connecting but trying not to squeeze him too hard. Steve turned the bike on and drove away from her apartment towards Stark Tower.

There were streets still littered in rubble and dirt and ruined cars, people were still cleaning up after the attack. And they would probably be doing so for months to come. Trying to pick up the rubble of what had once been their lives. People had lost their cars, homes, jobs and even families or lives because of the attack. It was terrible, it would forever be a scar on New York City.

Kelsey had spent days on end after the battle trying to aid first responders and average citizens clean the rubble and find survivors of the ruins while also trying to clean the streets. She worked from the moment she had left Steve and his companions until she'd passed out two days later from exhaustion and wound up in a hospital.

The attending nurse, who found Kelsey in a panic trying to clamber out of the bed had to sedate her, before explaining she had collapsed from overworking and been unconscious for a number of days.

Kelsey felt like there was still so much work that needed to be done, but her body could not keep up no matter how hard she worked. Closing her eyes Kelsey fought to ignore the guilt that rose in her body for never being able to do enough, digging her head into Steve back so she didn't have to see the world around her.

Steve of course, felt as Kelsey did that looking over his shoulder slightly but quickly turned back to pay attention to the road ahead of him. The pair arrived in a matter of minutes at Stark Towers going through a secret entrance underground into a basement filled with dozens of expensive cars.

"Hey... We're here." Steve called gently gaining Kelsey's attention. She pulled her head away from his back and got off the bike.

"Thanks." Kelsey said keeping her gaze away from him as she tried to hide guilt.

Of course, she knew the attack was not her fault. She was sure though when she met whoever's fault it was she'd make them pay. But if she was stronger maybe more people could've been saved and the fight could've ended earlier.

But this was also why she was here.

This is why she was going to listen to what Fury had to say. He said he'd help her become stronger and right now that's all she wanted to do.

"Kelsey, follow me." Steve said turning and walking towards the elevator in the corner. The two of them entered the elevator together and the door shut behind them. Looking around Kelsey was surprised to see there were no buttons to press.

"All the way up JARVIS." Steve said just as Kelsey turned to question him and the elevator lurched into motion.

"Welcome back Mr. Rogers." A disembodied voice responded. The elevator ride lasted all of a few seconds and before Kelsey could ask a single question Steve led the way out of the elevator into what looked like a once very fancy lounge but furniture was overturned covered in dust and rubble.  There was a spot were the dark marble floor was destroyed like someone had been repeatedly slammed into floor.

But there were some workers going through the floor like a punch of busy bees.

"Hello again Miss. Blackburn." A voice called out surprising Kelsey because it came from behind her.

Turning she saw the same fiery red-haired woman from when she had first met Steve during the battle.

"Hello, Natasha." Kelsey said simply with a light smile.

"Call me Nat."

"Nice to meet you again Nat. Please call me Kelsey or Kels, whatever suits you."

The two smiled at each other shaking hands, looking around there was no one else but the two women and Steve.

"Where is everyone else?"

"We still have to get to them." Nat responded leading the way past Steve down a hallway out into the open air, where an actual helicopter was waiting for them.

"Come on." Steve said with a small smile as he got onto the helicopter, Nat following after him. Swallowing a thick lump, Kelsey got onto the helicopter strapping into a seat as it started to take off.

"What the hell am I getting myself into?"
