RAIN | for NASCARCRAZYGIRL88

-

Cydney groaned, rolling over and wrapping her pillow around her head in a failed attempt to block out the loud noise coming from outside. Music was blasting from her neighbor's house at the same volume it had when their party started at 8 that night. It was almost two in the morning now, and she doubted the music would cease anytime soon.

She had given up on sleeping long ago, but that didn't stop her from laying in bed and doing absolutely nothing but sulk and think about the many ways she could storm over there and tell them to shut their obnoxious music off. Cydney loved a good party every once in a while, but not one that kept her up in the early hours of the morning when she didn't even get to join in.

However, she managed to drag herself out of bed anyway, as she was beginning to grow hungry and wanted to quickly grab something to eat before trying to go back to bed. She padded downstairs, her bare feet making small noises against the wood floor as she walked to the windows near her front door, peering outside.

It was then when she spotted someone outside. The rain was visible in the dim streetlights as the man stood there, surely being soaked head to toe by the downpour. She watched him for a long moment, wondering what he was doing outside of her house at such a time. Surely he was from the party, but that didn't explain why he was standing there in the cold and rain at two in the morning.

After a while, Cydney decided to ask him if he was alright. She slipped her slides on, pulling a light coat over the t-shirt she was wearing before heading outside. He looked up at the sound of the door opening but quickly looked down after figuring she wasn't looking for him.

As she got closer to him, she could see more and more of his features. He was fairly tall, and from what she could see underneath the baseball cap he wore, he had short brown or black hair.

"Are you going to stand out here in the rain all night?" she questioned, causing him to look up at her again. It was at this moment that she realized how attractive he actually was, his gaze immediately making her feel uncomfortable after her realization.

"Oh, um, I'm just not really a party person," he explained, turning to face her. "My friend invited me. The music was starting to give me a headache."

"You and me both," she chuckled, wiping her now-wet hair out of her face. "I haven't been able to sleep because of it."

"That sucks," the man replied for the lack of a better answer.

Cydney nodded as silence fell between them. She shivered slightly, the cold night air chilling her skin. "Do you want to come in?" she offered quietly. "I doubt you'd want to stay out here, considering it's pouring."

"Sure," he responded almost too quickly, flashing her a heart-stopping smile.

She turned away from him, walking back towards her house. He took a few quick steps to catch up with her, looking over with an amused look.

"I'm Adam," he introduced.

She glanced over at him as she reached out to grab the door handle. "Cydney," she introduced simply, twisting the door open and walking inside.

Adam closed the door behind her as she flipped her shoes off, shrugging her coat off at the same time. He did the same, putting his soaked sneakers on the mat neatly before looking up at her. Now that she could see him in the light, his gaze made her nervous. How she had ended up with a tall, attractive man in her house at two in the morning would be a story that her friends would surely get a kick out of.

"Do you want something else to wear? I think my brother left some clothes here a while ago that you might be able to fit into," she offered shyly.

"Yeah, that'd be great," Adam replied, flashing her another smile.

She shuffled away, mentally kicking herself for being so awkward. Adam was almost indescribably attractive, and though she wouldn't call it love at first sight, it was pretty damn close.

She appeared from the guest bedroom with a pile of clothes in her hands. She had found the biggest t-shirt and sweatpants she could find, figuring he'd need a larger size just because of how tall he was. He took them from her with a smile, fingers brushing over her knuckles as he did so.

"Bathroom's at the end of the hallway," she told him quickly, face flushed.

"Thank you," was all Adam said before walking past her. She ran her fingers through her hair before walking into the kitchen and opening the fridge, trying to complete her original task of finding something to eat. She decided on a glass of milk before sitting on the counter and looking around.

Adam emerged not long after, now dressed in her brother's clothes and his own wet ones in his hand. Her eyes drifted to his chest for a moment -- the shirt was a little small for him, not that she was complaining -- before looking up at him.

"A little small, but close enough," he commented, placing his clothes down on the counter as he leaned on the island across from her. His gaze bore into her as she glanced up at him, unsure of what to say.

They stayed like that for a while, talking about whatever came into their minds and simply getting to know each other better. Adam sat next to her, arm brushing up against hers with every slight movement either of them made.

"Hey, can I ask you something?" Adam questioned at one point, purposefully leaning closer to her.

"Yeah, sure," she replied.

His gaze was almost too much to handle as he asked, "do you believe in love at first sight?"

"If that's what I'm feeling right now," she began, glancing up at him, "then yes."
