When they woke up next to each other, with Tobias’s arms strung around Tris, holding her tight to him, neither of them expected what would happen that day.

When they said goodbye to each other after eating a quick breakfast, neither of them even thought about an accident happening.

When they kissed, long and hard because Tris knew how Tobias was on the day, knew the nightmares it would bring him later that night and knew of the thoughts that would cloud his mind as he worked, neither of them thought of the fact that one more thing would bring pain.

Tobias Eaton had always hated the day Wednesday. It was the day he had found out his mother left him, the day his father used to so intoxicated he didn't remember a thing. It was the day where the abuse he was given was at its worse.

Now, Tobias would have nightmares from one more thing. He would lose something that as a Dauntless--as an initiation trainer, was so important to him.

On that day, that Wednesday, Tobias would lose his leg.

“I can’t believe he’s making us do this.”

The train rattled against the tracks, and Tobias glanced up to Will slowly. One hand leaned against the cold, metal rail as the other pressed on a pile of boxes. Gus, their boss, had asked them to ride to Erudite and retrieve the supplies they needed; new computers, cords, and headphones. Updated technology that would make surveillance better in the faction.

“It’s our job,” Tobias rubbed a hand over his eyes. He hadn’t gotten much sleep last night. “Stop complaining.”

Will leaned his head against the wall of the train, sighing. “Always the instructor in telling me what to do,” he murmured.

“I’m only doing so because I have a horrible headache, and you're not making it any better.” Tobias sighed, and looked away from his girlfriend’s best friend. How did Tris even survive with him? Why did she expect him to survive with Will, be nice to him? He heard the same sound come from Will and barely rolled his eyes before saying, “Sorry.”

Tobias knew Tris had talked with her friends about their relationship. He knew that she had put more pressure to the words at least try to get along while talking to Christina also, who Tobias down-right hated. To make Tris happy, he would do so. But there was no telling he would try to become friends with them. Just. . .acquaintances.

“It’s okay, Four. If I didn't expect early runs to my old faction to get new supplies, I wouldn’t have signed up for this job.” Tobias glanced to him quick and watched Will smile. Even if he winced while doing it, he was still trying. That’s what Tobias should be doing.

The train shook, and Tobias’s grip in the rail tightened. He leaned more on the boxes full of brand new machinery. It moved again and Will glanced to Tobias, green eyes full with panic as he was forced to drop the things he was holding to place his hands on a bar.

A bar of which his fingers barely touched before the train was tilting and Will was falling, a sound mixed between a cry and groan moving through his lips. The boxes Tobias was holding fell then, Tobias following them shortly after as his backside crashed to the floor and he was sliding down, down.

The sound of bone breaking filled the cart and Will made another muffled cry. He started screaming a moment later, and Tobias squeezed his eyes shut, falling faster down the train car.
