Darknes was starting to fall, and I was getting worried about Lightwind and Aura.
"Miriko," I whispered, gently shaking her. she groaned and opened her eyes.
"What?" she asked. "Is the food back yet?"
"No," I said. "That's the problem."
I got up, and Miriko followed. I shifted into my fox, so I could pick up their scent better. I followed their trail through the bushes that they left.
After awhile of trekking, their scent split. "Okay, Miriko, go look that was for Aura Master. I'll track down Lightwind." She nodded and we split off.
As I was walking, I saw a few berries on the way and popped a few in my mouth to seize my hunger. His scent started getting stronger, and I broke into a jog.
As I neared his location, I could hear the screeches and gurgles of infected. "Oh no," I murmured to myself, panicking.
I peeked over a bush and saw him up in a tree, with infected trying to get to him. he was just sitting there. Unmoving.
I slowly took out my bow, praying that if they didn't hear me do that, they wouldn't hear my heart pounding against my chest.
I silently sniped all of the infected around the tree. I ran up, not bothering to take my arrows back, but just worried about Lightwind. I climbed up the tree, and as I got closer he moaned and darted his head side to side. I sighed as a wave of relief washed over me. "You're okay," I said to him.
He slightly jumped and looked at me as I jumped onto his branch. "Not quite," he almost whispered, moving his arm from over his side, which was torn and soaked with blood. He pulled up his shirt to reveal the wound, and I stared at it, as a single tear rolled down my cheek.
"You're..."
"Infected."
