DEL
Fly swatters. Never did Del think he would ever want a fly swatter because Jovis didn't have the same obnoxious pests that plagued Earth. Now, however, as an entire throng of giggling fairies with high tinkling voices that made his ears bleed, fluttered around him, Del yearned for a stick, ending in the flat weave, with the sole purpose of smashing tiny, aggravating winged creatures.
They flew about, took his measurements, made him raise his arms to fit into a coat that pinned his wings into his spine, tightened a shiny noose around his neck and called it a tie, and put ridiculous creams and crap in his hair.
As they drew the black strands out of his face, he tried to wave them off. But one of the small ladies shook her head. "We have to get it out of the way," She tittered. "Having it in your eyes prevents us all from seeing those beautiful gems." Her small cheeks turned a bit pink as she dashed back up with her brothers and sisters, pulling at his hair.
Del let out a hiss through his teeth. That's exactly the point.
He hated parties.
Now he crossed his arms and leaned back against a big pillar by the ballroom entrance doors. That familiar itching of feathers against skin brought him back to the last obnoxious party he'd been forced to attend. People everywhere, staring at him as he tried his best to disappear into the wall. The humans didn't even know he was the Oracle or anything abnormal to them, but still his eyes were a novelty no matter where he was.
But there was another reason he really wasn't in the mood. The elves had done what everyone always did. It'd been subtle, but an obvious choice that Del could see. They had excluded Lucis.
Faux paced around, blabbering on about something: feeling extra sexy and wondering what lucky woman would get the chance to be in his arms tonight.
It wasn't that Faux was the wrong person to be chosen for this opening dance. If the elves had asked who of Kai's friends actually wanted to be voided out, Del would have happily volunteered. Lucis liked dancing, parties, and people. Del didn't.
But no, the elves had arranged everything, and Lucis was the one that was not a part of this. Come to think of it, Del began to tug at the annoying tie around his throat. I haven't seen Lucis since the ceremony.
The sound of heels tapping their way down the stairs, made his eyes glance up at a stunning slender woman with rich dark hair pulled up, save for a few ringlets framing the practically glowing face as the warm, gold, gown shimmered as she descended.
For a moment Del got the sensation of stepping back in time. The girl was far older now, but the beautiful dress and the way she carried herself, he swore he was seeing that a little girl, who could seem much like himself at times-- insecure, awkward, lost, lonely, but then would come in, standing tall, reaching out, proving that she held a greater strength he did not possess back then.
It panged in his chest more painfully than he had expected. Kayne had told them that Evabelle would not remember them and that she would be a very different person than the girl they had known. Del thought he'd been prepared for that. He'd been more worried that Lucis would be the one to forget that fact.
However, over time as Evabelle changed from the girl, who'd had a meltdown, after that human party, Del had seen glimpses of the girl that he had known. Of course it was different, but there were some things that had felt so familiar to him, that broke through his apathetic stance. He'd already slipped and called her Maus, which he had never expected to do. He'd almost done it twice.
If Del was being honest, he hadn't been sure with Evabelle. When they had first retrieved her, she truly was a completely different person. It had been easier to accept what Kayne had said. She was not brave or particularly driven. But Lucis always believed. He'd seen her and instantly known. Of course he had.
Del would follow his brother to Hell and back, because Lucis had done more for him than he could ever repay.
The dark angel's eyes slipped off of the princess and fell to the mini blonde ball of insanity. The fairies would have dressed her up too, of course, but it was such a divergence from the ratty band logoed t-shirts with messy hair that flopped all over the place, that it shunted a boulder into his lungs, briefly smothering him.
The glittery purple dress shaped around the tiny girl in a manner that accented her body in a way that he didn't believe was possible. The back of the gown trailed behind her like a train, while the front was open revealing thin legs that made them appear longer than they really were. Her feet stepped down in soft silver shoes that made the clumsy her look almost graceful. Her glossy hair floated around her face in curls of their own, with small braids pulling it back revealing the glowing features of unruly starlit eyes and that cheeky grin that always spoke of trouble.
It was still Aza.
The corner of Del's mouth twitched, but then fell as the girl scampered right past him over to Faux. "Who knew, even you could be sexy?"
Faux casually joked back with her, but as Aza laughed at the scrawny Anahalian, something cold and dark stirred in the pit of Del's stomach.
The two girl's chatted with Faux, and Del really wished he could leave now. This whole thing was getting more insufferable by the minute. Parties were for sickeningly happy people.
Evabelle broke away from their conversation and looked over to him. Del felt that feeling again. This was the Anahalian princess. It felt more real than it ever had. As she approached him, he couldn't help himself. "Your majesty," He murmured, bowing to her.
"It's really weird when you do that." The beautiful girl whispered, her feet shuffling under his skirt.
Del straightened up. "It's been a long time since I've seen you dressed like royalty."
Evabelle gaped at him as if he'd just sprouted a third violet eye. Del realized it was the first time he'd truly acknowledged her in that way before. The honey-cinnamon irises shimmered, and he swore he could see her retreat back into her own mind.
Evabelle had mentioned how she was starting to remember some things from before. What if she really did start to remember when the three of them had been together? A small excited tingle touched his core. No! Del shoved it down. Don't get your hope up on something so stupid.
Hope was a hopeless cause. Don't let yourself think things will get better just by hoping it will. Lucis could do all the hoping he wanted, but Del was determined to not be disappointed. Even if that was all a lie. Even if he hoped just as much, if not more than his brother. He would be sure to never tell anyone that.
