"I'm Gareth" the man said.
"Looks like you've been on the road for a good bit" Gareth implied looking at us with a strange interest in his eyes. "We have" Rick answered, even though it wasn't a question.
"Rick, this is Carl, Daryl, Michonne, and Dillon" Rick introduced us.
Gareth waved awkwardly clearly trying to diffuse the tension. "Your nervous, I get it. We were all the same way" he mentioned. And even though I just met Rick, Daryl, Michonne, and Carl I trusted them. But Gareth wasn't giving me good vibes at all. "We came here for sanctuary, that what you here for?" He asked, making eye contact with each of us.
"Yes" answered Rick.
"Good, you found it" Gareth smiled, "hey Alex" a younger man began walking in our direction.
"This isn't as pretty as the front, we've got nothing to hide but the welcome wagon is a whole lot nicer" Gareth added. "Alex will take you, ask you a few questions. But first we need to see everyone's weapons. If you could just lay them down in front of you." He finished.
I didn't like it. He made me uneasy, and putting down our weapons meant that we were all gonna be easy targets. Beside me Daryl tensed, I could tell he didn't wanna comply either. Rick looked at Daryl then Michonne, then at me. He was still unfamiliar with me and where I stood, but at the moment I trusted his judgement.
Rick looked at Carl then nodded, "alright" Rick began putting his python on the floor in front of him, along with his other weapons, Carl did the same.
Michonne slowly put down her katana, and Daryl reluctantly put down his crossbow. Which left me, Rick looked at me and raised a brow. I followed suit, and put my bow on the ground slowly, then took off my quiver. I proceeded to take two knives out of my boots, then two out of my belt, followed by a pistol. I took three more knives out of my outer jacket pockets, and five from the inner pockets. As I did this I felt everyone's eyes on me. As I finished I straightened and nodded once to Rick to show I was finished. But little did they know was I had three more knives on me, hidden more securely than the others.
Gareth shuffled towards Rick and began patting him Down, as Alex did the same to Daryl. When Alex was finished patting Daryl down, he straightened and chuckled "I'd hate to see the other guy".
"You would" I growled. Alex went to pat down Carl "they deserve it?" He asked.
"Yes" Carl answered.
As Alex was frisking me, I hoped they weren't thorough enough to be able to find my last three knives. When he was finished he smiled at me, and I let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"Just so you know, we aren't those kind of people. But we aren't stupid either, and you shouldn't be stupid enough to try anything stupid. As long as everyone is clear on that we shouldn't have any problems, just solutions" Gareth finished. Gareth stalked off back to where he was when we first entered the room, and Alex began handing everyone their weapons back.
When he reached me he smiled awkwardly and went to began picking up my pile of knives, but I stopped him and continued on my own. After I was finished putting all my knives back in the right places, I straightened out to find Daryl staring at me, curiosity etched upon his face. I nodded to him.
"Follow me" Alex announced.
We all followed Alex without question, even though I was still very wary about the people here. It wasn't my call, I wasn't in charge Rick was.
"So how long has this place been here?" Daryl asked Alex.
"Since almost the start, when camps got overrun people started finding this place. I think it was instinct you know.
Follow a path. Some folks were headed to the coast, other west or north. But they all end up here." He informed."Hi, heard you came through the back door, smart. You'll fit right in here" a lady stated, she was cooking something some sort of meat. I couldn't put a finger on what it was though. I knew what all sorts of different meat looked like I was hunter through and through, my old man had taught me, but I didn't recognize what it was she was cooking. It made me tense.
"Mary will you fix these new folks a plate for me?" Alex asked.
Whatever it was she was cooking I was certainly not having it. This place still seemed off to me.
And I wasn't letting my guard down.
I began scanning the area, it was filled with people I'm assuming lived here. I glanced at Rick he was doing the same thing I was doing, observing. But Rick looked more agressive, as his eyes scanned the people of residence here.
"Why do you do it? Why do you let people in?" Michonne asked. I thought it was a decent question, I had been wondering the same thing myself.
"When people become apart of us, we get stronger." He answered.
Alex handed Carl and Michonne a plate of whatever they were cooking and I moved closer to the plate in Carl's hand, trying to get a closer look. I still didn't recognize it. Before I knew it Rick walked up to Alex smacked the plate out of Michonne's hand and pulled a watch out of Alex's pocket, and pressed a gun to his head.
I threw the plate out of Carl's hand and aimed my arrow at Mary; the cook's head.
In seconds we all had our weapons out pointed at somebody, and everyone in the courtyard had their own weapons pointed at us.
"Where did you get this watch!" Rick demanded.
"I don't-I don-please don't" Alex stuttered.
Then Gareth came out of the shadows, "Rick put the gun down" he stated.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see a sniper on the roof aiming at ricks head, but I didn't know if I could get him from this spot without someone on the ground firing at me.
Rick and Gareth were arguing about the watch, and riot gear, but I didn't care about that stuff. I assumed it was maybe the rest of Ricks groups. All I cared about in this moment was getting us out of here alive. And in seconds gunfire rained over our heads I pushed Carl so he would start following Daryl to somewhere safer than this. Rick shot Alex, and began chasing after us as we sprinted through the labyrinth like building. Daryl was leading, we ended up in a room lit by candles with 'trust no one' written all over the wall.
"What the hell is this place!" I yelled.
"Come on! There's gotta be a way out of here!" Rick ushered us through another door.
Gunfire surrounded us, they were all terrible shots. Then I realized.
"Guys their not aiming for us! Their aiming for our feet!" I screamed over the loud noise.
They all ignored me. We ran passed train cars, and I could here people screaming for help from inside them.
We stopped in a tight circle with our backs to each other. When Gareth appeared at the top of the building in front of us.
"Ringleader put your weapons down, and walk to that train car over there" Gareth motioned towards a burgundy train car that was settled to my left.
"My son" Rick announced. I cursed to myself, how could Rick go and show his biggest weakness like that.
"Go. If you don't I kill the boy, and you go in there anyway." Gareth sneered.
Rick looked apologetic and turned to walk towards the train car.
"Now the archer"
Daryl put his crossbow down and began to stalk to the train car.
"The samurai"
Michonne put down her katana scowled at Gareth and followed Daryl.
It was just me and Carl.
"Now the armoury"
I began taking out all my knives that they knew about, and laid them by my feet, followed by my bow and quiver.
I sighed I looked at Carl not wanting to leave him in the open, but he only nodded.
I followed suit towards the train car.
"My son" Rick announced again.
Gareth waited a moment which felt like an eternity before letting Carl walk toward us.
"Okay ringleader, samurai, archer, armoury, and the kid. In that order" Gareth demanded.
"No go in" was the last thing Gareth said.
We walked in, enveloped in darkness. I shuffled Carl towards his dad. And the train cars door shut abruptly."Their going to eat us" I announced.
I could barely see their faces but I felt their eyes on me. When I heard I shuffle of feet, but it wasn't any of ours we weren't alone in here. I tensed reaching under my shirt to pull out one of my hidden knives.
"Rick, is that you?" A Korean man walked into my sight range, he knew Rick it was okay. I dropped my shirt leaving the knife there for now.
The group had their reunion, but I could care less. They were just more people we had to get out of here. More people to protect.
"Glenn, Maggie, Sasha, bob, this is Dillon. She saved us." Rick said I smiled, because I did.
I shook their hands.
They introduced four more new people; Abraham, Rosita, Eugene, and Tara. They seemed like okay people other than the fact that two out of the four definitely would need to be protected.
I zoned out, everyone was talking about how we were going to manage to find a way out of here. I zoned back to hear Rick say
"Their screwin' with the wrong people."
