"Hi, I'm..." before I can even introduce myself I'm interrupted.
"Why would I care who you are?" he snarls.
Emma Winston is a 17-year old who's finishing high school. Emma has always been kind of invisible but that changes when she's forced to work...
"We are here today to celebrate the 20th birthday of my son. Who soon will have his own son and daughter or sons or daughters." Steven looks from Lucas to me and back to Lucas. "Anyways twenty years ago to the minute my boy was born and here he is now all grown up."
We chuckle a bit at Steven's words because he doesn't look anything like a dangerous gang leader right now but just like a proud father. Lucas pulls me further into his arms and I smile up at him making him kiss me.
"Look at them now. Fifteen years ago he would have said 'Girls have cooties' and now he's a happy twenty year old member of our family planning his own with his beautiful girlfriend or is it fiancé by now?" Steven continues his speech.
"Here we go again." I tell Lucas as I hear Steven's last words.
"Not yet but thanks a lot dad!" Lucas replies as an answer to Steven who's grinning from ear to ear.
"Why is he grinning like that?" I whisper to Lucas who's grinning just like his father by now.
"Because he knows what I'm about to do." Lucas whispers back in my ear.
"What?" I ask not getting where he's going with this. "Lucas what are you-" I stop midsentence when Lucas lets go of me and comes to stand in front of me taking my hands.
"Emma Marie Natalia Winston, I love you with whole my heart and although we haven't been dating that long I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I know I gave you that promise ring not that long ago but I want you to become my wife before our kids are born. So, will you marry me?" He's holding the most beautiful ring I've ever seen as he's sitting on one knee.
Tears are streaming down my face and I don't feel like I can say anything but the way he's looking at me gives me some sort of strength so I open my mouth and say "Yes. Yes, I'll marry you!"
Lucas slips the ring on my finger and stands up engulfing me in a hug as he kisses me with a happy smile on his face. I'm crying like a big baby but I've never been happier before. Well, maybe once when we got to know of the babies and accepted them.
We stay like that for a while before Lucas takes my hand and takes a picture of the ring. I see him open his social media accounts as he posts the picture.
