GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Welcome to the glossary of terms, where, well, everything is located. If it's in the story, it's probably here. If I'm missing something let me know! Note: not everything is categorized properly in their alphabets. So, for instance, some 'A' items might be out of order.

A:

Aether: A strange substance able to exist in a variety forms. Comes from a dimension called Elsewhere.

Aetheral: Referring to aether.

Aethermancer: Someone dabbling in aethermancy.

Aethermancy: The practice of controlling aether by mind alone.

Aether Dose: A dose of liquid aether given to cultivate powers inside an individual. Extremely hard to manufacture, as this process must be done between both Elsewhere and the corporeal.

Aether Tube: A tube capable of delivering drugs and hydrating liquid without the need for a swallow response. A revolutionary invention on part of several aethermancers and a medical genius in Aida.

Aida: A coastal power across the Sea of Sarkans.

Airship: A multipurpose aerial vessel capable of sailing through the clouds.

Ardent (The): A cargo tanker equipped to mine the interdimensional floating rocks inside aether storms.

Artillery Cruiser: A class of airship capable of delivering a heavy shot at the speed of sound. Pierces armor, and can ofttimes sink even the sturdiest of warships in several well placed hits.

Candia: Previously a dukedom, this place had earned its right to be a kingdom during Duke Langer's rebellion. Now a regency after a mercenary coup.

Civetia: The dominant power of its region. Once comprising of both the dukedoms of Sarkans and Candia, Sarkans was deemed unstable and thus the power was cut off from Civetia following the collapse of its monarchy. Candia rebelled.

Corvette: An extremely fast ship capable of delivering a massive payload in a single well placed burst. Often referred to simply as a 'bomber', these ships will make daring moves on larger vessels in attempt to hit them where it hurts the most. (Should Artillery cruisers be unable to hit critical areas, and run out of ammunition.)

Dose: A term for painkiller. Can also be used in reference to any other drug, such as aether dose.

E:

Elsewhere: A dimension parallel to that of the corporeal. Can overlap, most of the time creating storms. Carries the strange element called aether.

The Huslani Empire: Referred mostly to as just 'The Empire,' The Huslani Empire is located far north of Sarkans, bordering Aida.

F:

Frigate: A versatile airship mostly used in warfare.

G:

Galleon: A large airship used for either large cargo transport or as a line ship. Can also be purposed as a large volley mortar platform.

H:

Hensa: An Aidean honorific for teacher. (Think Japanese 'sensei'.)

High Form: Aethermancy when done in the corporeal.

Hijuna Class Frigate: A frigate of Aidean origin. A sturdy craft with a moderate speed. Can sport two decks of broadside cannons, and if retrofitted, a mortar cannon.

Huslana: The Huslani capital city.

I:

Inspiration: A term for one's trigger to help surface their powers in aethermancy. Arianna's was her awe of the moon.

Low Form: Aethermancy when done in Elsewhere.

M:

Malignancy: Comprises many aetheral phenomena. Can be a malignant dimension of Elsewhere entangled to a certain individual, or just a rogue strip of aether travelling endlessly inside Elsewhere itself.

Man-o-War: A galleon commissioned for warfare.

Postcognition: The ability to see well into the past. For aethermancers, this foresight is mostly about themselves, although it is possible for precognition to develop into a 'god's-eye'phenomena.

Precognition: The ability to see into the future.

Proxies: Strange aetheral creatures stuck in the corporeal. Extremely dangerous.

Sarkans: Now a foreign power,  Sarkans was previously one of the two colonial kingdoms to settle the Coast of Kiva over three hundred years ago. Inner turmoil led to the kingdom's eventual collapse.

Watch: A system used aboard naval ships: two crews rotate on a scheduled basis so that one will never tire beyond the point of being able to function.

Wita: 'white-like' in Sarkanese. The word for just 'white' would be 'witun'.

Yamra: A Sarkanese sailing cap. Originates from before the colonial period. Possibly from Aida.
