Dahlia woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. She checked the clock to see that it was already midday. She sat up and answered.
"Hello?"
"DAHLIA CHAN!" Lottie's voice squealed in response.
Dahlia jumped. She wasn't used to Lottie being so loud and excited.
"Oh... hey, Lottie chan. What's up?"
"You won't believe who I'm hanging out with! There's a new guy joining our school and he's really hot! And he's super nice! You've got to meet up with us. He's just looking around the plaza right now. Meet us here!"
"Okay, wait there then!" Dahlia said, before hanging up and dressing in a casual hoodie and denim shorts. She grabbed a muesli bar and called out to her grandmother that she was going out for a bit. I wonder what he's like... Dahlia wondered as she jogged. I'm sure he'll be really sweet.
She arrived at the plaza and walked over to Lottie. Lottie was wearing a pale blue sweater and jeans and her usual black glasses. She looked enviously at Dahlia.
"You always look so cute in everything you wear, Dahlia chan. Lucky."
"Thank you♡✧( ु•⌄• ). Um where is the guy?"
Lottie took Dahlia by the hand and pushed through the double doors of the maid café. At the counter, there was a boy with soft blonde hair and bright eyes. He wore a simple long white t shirt and jeans, but he stood out because of his radiant smile. The boy was talking with one of the maids. He caught Lottie's eye and waved.
"I've never been in a maid café before. I thought I'd come and see what it was like." He said with a grin. He spotted Dahlia. "Who's this?"
"This is my best friend, Dahlia Greenfield. She wanted to meet you before school started." Lottie smiled. Dahlia stood, speechless. She could feel heat rising in her cheeks when the boy gave her a lopsided smile.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Brad Bailey, I'll be joining you at Chartlette Community Academy.
"N- nice to meet y-you too..." Dahlia said, and she blushed and ducked her head.
Lottie clapped her hands. "Let's go grab us some ice cream and we'll give you tips about school ‎(●⌃ٹ⌃)."
Brad smiled and nodded. The three left the maid café, turning a corner and bumping straight into someone. That someone happened to be Jenna Mackintosh.
"Oh no..." Dahlia muttered. Jenna smiled at her with her gleaming hazel eyes.
"Hey, Dahlia. (•ི̛ᴗ•̛)ྀ Fancy seeing you here. With..." She looked Brad up and down, clearly impressed.
"Brad. He's a transfer student." Dahlia said. She was being civil, but there was an edge to her voice and Brad and Lottie's eyes darted between the two.
"Hey, Brad. My name is Jenna." Jenna said, and she flashed him a smile and tossed her hair. Brad smiled back at Jenna. They stood in silence, apart from Jenna who was chewing a piece of gum very loudly.
Eventually Jenna winked at Brad and walked off. Dahlia's dark eyes followed her as she went. Brad tapped her lightly on the shoulder. Her cheeks went pink at the touch.
"Ready for that icecream, Dahlia chan?" He asked her, offering a smile. She nodded. They headed into the ice cream place. Brad bought a vanilla icecream with sprinkles, Lottie had a chocolate ice cream with a flake and Dahlia chose a strawberry scoop and a melon scoop. They wandered out of the store together, and headed for the park. It was Summertime, and the school year had started only about three weeks ago. The trio sat down and started chatting generally, but all through the conversation Dahlia's heart was pounding. Brad... I think I really like him!
