The Assignment

This is a new try for me. I hope you all like this. I'm sorry that I haven't wrote anything in a very long time. Please forgive me, but I can only get on internet at home when I have homework and my school has blocked Wattpad. I still love you all and hope you enjoy the first chapter of this book.

-------------------

I was walking down my road towards my house when the wind started to blow. It ruffled past me, blowing my hair everywhere. I decided to start running towards my driveway when out of nowhere the ground split in half right behind me. It felt like I was dreaming when I turned around and saw something red come out of the broken ground. It looked inhuman. In fact it was. It was the devil. I stopped right where I was. I didn't move. I didn't breath. I just stood there.

"Cassidy, I have an assignment for you. You may of thought that the road trip from hell and back was over, but I have added a little fun into it. Your assignment is to find your one and only before this time tomorrow."

I struggled with my words, but finally got them out as a croak. "And if I don't, what happens then?"

"You will die, along with the rest of the universe. I'm being honest with my words Cassidy. Don't make me prove you wrong," he said as his figure began to disappear.

"Wait! How am I suppose to find my true love in twenty-four hours?" I screamed past the pain in my chest, the sound of my heart beat in my head, and the wind roaring past my head.

"He's close. He's very close. Maybe even closer than you think." At that, the red figure, known as the devil, disappeared back into the ground. With a loud grumbling noise, the ground closed back up and the wind stopped blowing. It seems like nothing had happened at all, but I know different.

I turned back towards the way I was going, but before I could take a few steps I seen something run across the street. No not something. Someone. This someone stops so fast that it seems as if this person will fly forward. The thought of this person falling makes me smile and almost giggle; even after what all just happened.

The person suddenly sees me and stops from going forward with its mission. That's when I realized that it was a boy. Maybe my age. Maybe a little older than I am. He had a look of disappointment and discourage on his face, but the look that caught my attention was the look of hopelessness. It looked as if he was now giving up from something that he was running from. As if he had no future.

That's when I realized something, I knew this guy. I knew him from somewhere, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. I just couldn't recall where he's from. He looks so familiar. It's like I've known him forever, but someone took that memory from me. It was lost. Maybe even... misplaced.

My eyes suddenly went wide, but before I could start walking over to him I noticed his eyes mimic mine. They quickly return to normal, in the process of being rolled, and he walks away.
