Blaine arrived at the Lima Bean a few minutes earlier than he and Kurt had agreed to meet. He decided to head inside and find a table. As he walked into the quaint little coffee shop Blaine's nerves were washed away. He had spent so much time over the past few years at the Lima Bean drinking in the different scents of coffee and enjoying the company of so many different people. As he looked around for a table, he couldn't help but notice the numerous Dalton blazer clad boys scattered throughout the place. Unlike at McKinley, Blaine felt like he truly belonged.
Blaine suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder and he quickly turned around rather startled. A smile instantly overpowered his lips as his hazel eyes landed on a pair of bright blue ones that sparkled like diamonds.
"Hey Blaine! Lets grab some coffee!" Kurt greeted as he gestured towards the line leading towards the barista counter. Blaine quickly nodded and followed him over to the back of the line.
Blaine didn't mind waiting in the long line. It gave him the opportunity to stand so close to Kurt. As they stood in line together Blaine felt a bit awkward with the silence between them. He wasn't sure how to begin a conversation and it seemed that Kurt didn't know how either. The line slowly got shorter and shorter and Blaine was frantically looking around the shop for something to say.
Only when there was one boy left in front of them did Blaine realize that he didn't know who was going to pay for the drinks. Blaine could feel sweat forming on his forehead as he ran through all of the possible outcomes. He could pay and ask Kurt to pay next time but that would imply that Kurt had to go out with him again. Blaine didn't want to force Kurt to do anything. They could each pay for their own drinks but that didn't seem very date-like to Blaine. Blaine could pay for the drinks and tell Kurt not to worry about it but he didn't want to imply that Kurt needed him to pay.
Blaine was so confused.
"Next!" the Barista shouted towards Blaine and Kurt. Kurt walked forward and Blaine followed slowly behind him.
"Grande Nonfat Mocha please." Kurt spoke confidently and then turned back to look at Blaine.
"Medium Drip please." Blaine added quickly to the barista as he grabbed his wallet from his back pocket. He saw Kurt go to do the same thing and Blaine instantly made up his mind. "I'll get it. Maybe you can pay next time?"
Kurt smiled softly and nodded. Blaine quickly paid for the drinks and gestured towards a table at the back of the shop.
"Thank you for the drink Blaine." Kurt went to sit at the table and Blaine followed suit.
"Yeah of course! Thank you for meeting me here." Blaine smiled as he took a sip of his coffee. The two delved into silence again as they stared at each other.
"Is it just me or does this seem a bit awkward?" Kurt questioned after a few minutes. Blaine was relieved that he wasn't the only one feeling a bit off.
"No it is. I'm sorry. I guess I'm just not sure of what to talk about." Blaine's cheeks tinted pink when they looked up at those startling blue eyes again. They were so bright and full of kindness he didn't want to look away.
Kurt nodded in understanding. "How about you tell me a little about yourself."
Blaine smiled warmly. "Well, as you know I used to go to Dalton. I was lead singer for the Warblers. I was part of a Dalton fight club but I guess I'm not supposed to talk about that." Blaine blushed as he started to ramble.
Kurt Laughed. "I can understand that."As Kurt and Blaine shared interests and stories they slowly grew more comfortable together. As they talked they found themselves slowly leaning in towards each other, drinking in both their coffee and everything the other had to say.
Occasionally one of the many boys in blazers would stop by their table to say hello to Blaine. Blaine was polite but Kurt noticed that he maintained all of his attention on him. Kurt smiled at the look of adoration upon the shorter man's face.
Suddenly Kurt felt overcome with the sensation of being watched again, but Kurt knew that it was the sense of longing and affection coming from Blaine. It was then that Kurt realized it had been Blaine all along. He had been the cause of feeling admired and respected from afar the past few months.
Blaine looked down at his watch for the first time since arriving at the Lima Bean to see that it had gotten pretty late. The sun was setting fast outside and the coffee house had become rather empty. Kurt yawning was the final sign that they should call it a night.
After they threw out their empty coffee cups they headed out towards their cars. As they walked, Blaine felt Kurt slowly grasp his hand and intertwine their fingers.
Blaine couldn't contain the giddy smile that was forming on his lips. His confusion over whether they were on a date or not had vanished over an hour ago. He had to admit that he still felt like he was dreaming. He couldn't believe he was holding hands with such a beautiful boy.
Blaine walked Kurt to his car on the far side of the parking lot. When they reached the vehicle neither one of them wanted to let go. Kurt turned to look at Blaine's bright hazel eyes. "Thank you for tonight. I had so much fun getting to know you better."
Blaine nodded and blushed. "I had a lot of fun too. To be honest, I don't really want tonight to be over."
Kurt chuckled and moved closer. "Me either."
Blaine hesitated for a split second to gather some courage before he leaned forward even more and closed the gap between them, capturing Kurt's soft pink lips with his own.
Kurt paused with surprise before quickly melting into the kiss and wrapping his arms around Blaine's waist. The two kissed gently as the sun's glow faded over the horizon.
For Blaine the kiss ended to quickly. He wanted to kiss him again but decided against it. Their date had been perfect.
They said goodnight and headed their separate ways. As Blaine walked back to his own car he felt as if he was flying. All of his dreams had just come true.
