The powerful gallops of my black Frisian horse Comet, filled my ears and was the only sound I could here besides the thick amount of air whooshing around me. Tears leaked out over the brim of my glossy smokey gray eyes making it hard to see, but Comet knew where he was going by heart.

It was almost like a second home to us. The trees provided privacy and there tops provided shelter, but it was the cliff itself that made its way to the honorary position of my sacred spot.

Comet and I knew we had arrived when we saw the orange sun flicker through two large oak trees. Normally we were alone, but instead of an empty patch of land there was a man sitting there. He looked a little older than me maybe 17 or 18 and his dirty blonde hair spiked up into a cliff itself. His long muscular body laid sprawled out with is hands tucked beneath his head, propping it up slightly.

I slid down off of Comet causing the mystery man to sit up and turn his head to look at me, "Who are you?" I questioned trying to stare a hole through the mysterious boy who had crossed paths with my beautiful hide out.

"I could only asked the same seeing your on my ridge," he countered turning his gaze back towards the orange and pink blazing sun.

"Your ridge?," I almost shrieked. I was in no mood for games, "I think you're mistaken beca-"

He cut me off with another question, "Do you know what the name of this ridge is?"

His casual tone infuriated me, "No," I huffed, "I do not know the name of it."

"It's Lucas... Lucas ridge, therefore it is my ridge."

I stared at him speechless. Who does this mystery man think he is! He's a nuisance is what he is.

"Luke Hemmings is the name, and seeing that I am a nice soul, I grant you permission to have part of my ridge for the night."

I scoffed sitting as far away from him as possible, "You know, if your'e so nice why do you come of a real fool?" I asked him as I plop myself down on a patch of soft green grass.

He looked over at me almost a different person. His blue eyes went from his playful manner to a harsh stone blue one that would make another tremble underneath his glare, his smirk faded, and he almost looked weak and defeated, "Being a farm boy doesn't exactly fit the description of tough, just poor."

"Oh, i'm sorry, I came off quite rude." I quickly spat an apology because of the guilt I built up inside of me from my previous comment.

"Don't be."

Silence took over as we both watched the majestic sunset turn into the dark starry night filled with tiny fireflies that illuminated the night sky.

"Thank you," I mumbled softly, "For letting me accompany you."

I saw him slightly nod as if to say your welcome, "I'm sorry about your mother, I know what today is and I apologize for making your day even harder."

I gasped at the reminder of my mothers passing, "It's quite alright... We used to come here and watch for shooting stars," I confessed.

"Did you ever see any?"

"One, I wished for happiness, but I never knew what she wished for. She refused to tell me, telling me that it would never come true if she told me."

"My mom used to tell me that too!"he gave a chuckle as if remembering his time in the past with his mother.

We fell silent for a while longer.

"I must go, I wouldn't want to worry the guards to much," I announced dusting my blue sun dress off.

"My sixteenth birthday is coming up." I gave him a hint to tell me how old he was but he doesn't seem to catch on.

"I know," he said standing as well. I was taken aback by his height. 6'3, 6'4 maybe.

"Um.. I'm having a masquerade ball if you'd like to come."

Flashing a bright white smile, "I would be honored."

I smiled feeling over joyed, "Meet me here tomorrow for your invite?"

"Sure, same time?"

"Sure."

With that I waved a goodbye as did he in return. Comet turned and shot off as if he was in a race against himself to return to the warmth of his stable. While ride his back with a warm pleasant smile across my mouth all thanks to the friendly stranger.

I slipped into the cobblestone castle I call home. Smiling at a few of our servants I headed to my bed chamber stopping in my tracks as I heard my fathers sobs float out of the dining hall.

"She can't be sixteen yet Benjamin."

They were talking about me.

"Sir she's ready, you know it as well as I do," Benjamin, my fathers right hand man, responded.

Ready for what?

After I heard no more words I just slipped up to my bed chamber preparing myself for the night. I cleaned my teeth slipped into my nightgown an padded over to my great dark oak desk my father had built for me when I was younger. He meant it for my studies, but I never seemed to use it for that.

I searched the top drawer for my finest piece of parchment. Pulling it out, I neatly printed the information of my ball onto the piece. When I was done I folded and sealed it, signing Luke Hemmings on the front.

Slipping into bed I only had one thing one my mind and for once it wasn't my beloved mother. It was a tall blond haired farm boy. My first friend.
