Chapter 8
"Focus, Sam. The guys are going to be here in half an hour, you have to get the song down," Zain explained for at least the third time. I groaned and set the sheet music he printed out down as his phone rang.
He answered it, "Hello?" Pause, "Hey man!" Pause, "Yeah, I found someone. You?" Pause, "Why not?" Pause, "Oh yeah... Well it's cool. Catch ya later," He pressed the end button.
I gave him a questioning look, and he explained, "Oh, that was our drummer. We were all supposed to find someone to 'try-out', but so far your the only one I know of. Not sure if our bass guitar found someone yet,"
"Ah, I see. But why can't you tell me who's in this band?" I complained again. He rolled his eyes and ignored it turning his attention back to the song.
"Sing it!" I rolled my eyes and ran them over the sheet music. I had to preform a cover of the song Playing God by Paramore. I knew the song, but not by heart. I cleared my throat and prepared myself to sing...

Can't make my own decisions or make any with precision
Well, maybe you should tie me up so I don't go where you don't want me
You say that I've been changing, that I'm not just simply aging
Yeah, how could that be logical?
Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat
Wo-o-o-ho-oh
You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger... I'll point you to the mirror
If God's the game that you're playing
Well, we must get more acquainted
Because it has to be so lonely... to be the only one who's holy
It's just my humble opinion, but it's one that I believe in
You don't deserve a point of view, if the only thing you see is you
Wo-o-o-ho-oh
You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger... I'll point you to the mirror
This is the last second chance
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm half as good as it gets
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm on both sides of the fence
(I'll point you to the mirror)
Without a hint of regret... I'll hold you to it
I know you don't believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger... I'll point you to the mirror
I know you won't believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger
I might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger... I'll point you to the mirror

"Yes!" Zain cheered as I successfully completed the song. I rolled my eyes and pushed him out of the chair. He fell on the carpeted floor with a 'thunk' and glared at me. I just smiled back at him innocently. He rolled his eyes, "Come on, the guys will be here soon,"
He led me out into the garage and began tuning his electric guitar. He looked at me, "Want to try a run through with guitar only?"
I nodded, "Sure,"
He started the intro, I was about to begin when the garage door opened and in walked two guys. I knew one of them, but not the other. I didn't know Jason was in a band... Let alone this band!
Jason didn't see me yet and walked straight to Zain, "Hey man, sorry, I forgot to find someone..." He trailed off.
Zain shrugged it off, "No biggie - I found someone anyways. Sam come out!"
I walked onto the stage and Jason's jaw literally dropped when he saw me. Was he disappointed? Scared? Shocked? All of the above? I didn't know what to think.
"Hey guys,"
"Hey," The guy I didn't know replied.
Jason just gave me a tight lipped smile.
"Okay well, Playing God from the top, Oh! And Sam this is Jeff, our drummer," Zain instructed. I nodded in Jeff's direction out of curtesy.
The intro began and I sang my heart out to the song. I put in as much emotion as I possibly could into that one 3minute 7second song. When I finished Zain was smiling proudly, almost smirking, at the astonished faces worn by Jason and Jeff.
"Wow," Jason was the first to speak, "I vote yes!"
The two others agreed, and I smiled at them, "Cool,"
"Wait!" Jeff interjected, very loudly, "We need a band name!"
"Lightning!" Jason offered. I shook my head - too heavy metal sounding.
"Panthers!" I laughed at Jeff's suggestion. I fake glared at me causing to laugh harder. All of the shouting made me come up with a name.
"Guys!" I called out, they silenced almost immediately, "How about 'The Loud Ones' ?"
They all smiled hugely and unanimously said, "Yes,"
I smiled back, "Well hello there Loud Ones!"
We all laughed. We ran through Playing God one more time before calling it a day - It was already 8:30 by now after all of our arguing and jokes.
As I went to go to bed, what just happened finally registered and excited me for some reason. I'm in a band! I fell asleep with a smile on my face, I felt accomplished impressing all three of them. Let's just hope I can impress more people, too.
