Elena

Two Days Later

The sudden turn of events in my life paired perfectly with the drastic change in climate. We had safely landed in Toronto. The 20 below wind whipped against my face with a big hello as we stepped off the plane. I buried my gloved hands in the pockets of my North Face jacket after tugging my toboggan over my ears. Aubrey had harassed me about making it to All-Star Weekend months ago, and luckily I had enough vacation days for my boss to approve.

I had spent the last two nights at the hospital due to obligations and by choice. My patients were making progress at a slow rate, but overall they were better than the day before. I tried to use my job to take my mind away from Paul's death but it was impossible. Prison Services and the Family Liaison contacted me as Michelle said they would. They refrained from giving me details, no matter how many times I asked or how desperate I sounded. All they informed me of was that the body would be released to the family. The funeral would be held tomorrow in Beverly Hills. I decided that it was best for me not to attend. His family blamed me for everything that has happened to him. I didn't want my presence to stir up emotions.

Unbeknownst to everyone, I attend the wake prior to leaving California. I happened to be the only visitor at the time, which I was thankful for. I spent about ten minutes there. I didn't want to be too long. Even though I was sitting in front a picture of him and an urn, what was once surreal had become reality. Someone who was once the love of my life that turned into my biggest fear was gone from this earth forever.

"Elena."

I snapped out of my thoughts and saw Angelo standing on the ground extending his hand to help me down the last step. I still wasn't speaking to him for the most part. My words were kept short with simple yes and no's, head nods and shrugs or nothing at all. I was still angry with him about what I heard him say to Aubrey. On top of that, I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what that dream meant. There were mornings I woke up frustrated because it wouldn't return to me.

I didn't want to have him standing there looking stupid, so I took his hand and stepped down. He tried to hold on to it, but I didn't hesitate to pull away. I kept my eyes ahead to the black SUV amidst the snow flurries landing on my nose. He sucked his teeth and sighed, quickening his pace to go ahead in front of me.

There were three cars total. The whole house had flew in together on Aubrey's private jet. It was too cold for me to be difficult so I followed Angelo into the car with Aubrey, Em, Chubbs, Ryan and Oliver driven by Spoons. Owen and Courtne had come on the trip also along with the twins. Max had to stay behind due to the basketball region playoffs. Since Aubrey would be running around doing his thing as the man of the weekend, he wanted to make sure Em and I had security of our own in tow. He was protective of my sister before but now that she's pregnant, he's multiplied that times ten.

Oliver informed us that we were heading to our hotel. Aubrey had rented out penthouse suites for everyone for the weekend. Being that it was also Valentine's Day weekend, all of the couples had their own one bedroom suites. Of course, that meant Angelo and I sharing a bed. I'm not going to be a bitch and ruin everyone's weekend, so I'll just go with it.

"Aubrey?" my sister laid her head on his shoulder, "I'm hungry."

She looked too cute, stuffed in one of his Canada Goose jackets and an 6 God beanie. It was something about wearing her fiancés clothing line that she loved. You couldn't tell her anything.

"There's room service at the hotel, baby. We'll be there in ten minutes," he kissed her forehead.

"But what if I don't like what they have?" she semi whined but sounded so innocent at the same time.

"If they don't have what you like then I'll go get you something."

"But by then I'm going to be really hungry and if we just stop now the possibility of the unknown in regards to what they offer can be avoided."
