<Micah's POV>
I drove my car toward the school. Derek is sitting in the front passenger's seat and Daniel, Tal, and Matthew sat in the back in that order. I smiled as I look in the mirror and saw Matthew's face fill with discomfort. It's obvious to me that he likes her. Tal, as always is too hard to get a read on and Daniel was lost in thought as he looked out the window.
"Look, there's Syd," Tal pointed out. Sure enough, there Sydney was. I parked on the side of the road across from the school. We got out of the car. Sydney waved at us. We waved back and crossed the road.
"Okay guys, follow me," Derek told us as he led us to the back of the school.
"So how are we getting in Derek?" Sydney asked.
"As you all know, this school is really, and I mean really, old," Derek started to explain. "And I've lived here for a while, so my older sister would take me hear after picking me up from Middle School. I'd play around in the school stadium with other kids and she'd go to a club meeting or study with a friend." He led us toward the school stadium. "One time, the kids I played with couldn't come so I decided to scare the crap out of my sister and wander around the school." We stopped at the entrance of the stadium.
"It's locked," Matthew pointed out.
"Thank you, Captain Obvious." Daniel joked.
"That's okay. We don't need to go in any way." Derek said as he turned to walk toward the bleachers. "Anyways, I wandered around and ended up under here and found this." We stopped at a pile of dirt.
"A pile of dirt? Great!" Sydney said in a sarcastic tone. He rolled up my sleeves. I do the same as I realize what is under it.
"Always keep an open mind," Tal said smiling and rolling up her sleeves as well.
"What?" Matthew said still confused. Tal, Derek, and I clear the dirt off a trap door.
"Oh wow," Daniel mumbled to himself. I opened the trap door, revealing wooden stairs going down.
"Follow me, be careful, and turn on your flashlights on your phones," Derek advised. We descended the stairs. He led us through a tunnel filled with dust and cobwebs. We walked until we came to a door. Derek took out a key from his pocket.
"That's why no one found this before?" Tal asked as she eyed the key.
"Yes. I was given this when I came here for the first time." He unlocked the door revealing another wooden staircase this time going up. "I knocked into a senior I never saw before and who apparently knew about this before me." Derek locked the door behind us. "He told me he was graduating and needed a 'successor' of the key to the door. He said 'no one knows about this door. You're the first to find this in years.' He explained to me how to keep it a secret and gave me the key. I never saw him again." We reached the top of the stair and Derek unlocked the door.
"Well, would you look at that." Daniel spoke first, "We're in the boys' gym locker room."
"I've always wondered what this door was." Matthew chimed in as I locked the door behind us.
"What time is it?" Tal asked, reminding us all why we were really here.
"11:59p.m." Micah checked.
"Let's hurry," Matthew said. We hurried out of the boys' locker room and headed towards the gym. We turned right and ran to the gym across the hall. We burst into the gym. There, above the center school logo, was the symbol that we saw earlier in our visions. But this time it was white.
<Sydney's POV>
We turned off our flashlights on our phones. The symbol's white glow illuminated the gym enough for us to see. We walked toward it with caution and surrounded it.
"So... What now?" Tal asked. Derek stepped forward. Hand outstretched toward the glowing symbol.
"We'll never know unless we try," Derek murmured.
"Derek wait!" Micah blurted out but it was too late. Derek's hand phased right through the symbol.
"Nothing happened, relax," I announced. Then the Symbol morphed into a white upsidedown heart. "Nevermind," I said. We all shielded ourselves with our arms out of fear and paranoia. When nothing else happened, I lowered my arms. So did the others. We looked at each other.
"Look!" Micah pointed at the upsidedown heart. It was cracking. then it split into seven pieces. Each of the pieces formed into orbs of color. Our rings began to glow. A yellow one shot right into the left side of my chest. I dropped my phone out of shock, it didn't hurt. then a yellow glowing heart came out and circled around me. The same thing happened to everyone else only with the different colors of their rings.
For Tal however, it was different. All of us watched as 2 orbs, light and dark blue, raced around her, pushing at each other. Her eyes widened. The orbs race around her merging with each other. The new orb was half light blue, half dark blue. Finally, the new orb shot into the left side of her chest. She screamed out in pain.
"Tal!" Matthew yelled. He tried to run to her but a red barrier that the heart seemed to be generating stopped him.
Then a half light blue, half dark blue heart came out and circled around her. She collapsed on the spot, still holding her hand to her chest, panting. Then our phones, and if we had glasses, glowed the color of our rings. Whether it was in our pockets or on the floor they floated through our barriers and dropped to the floor out of our reach.
"Hey-" I started but then white circles under our feet started to glow and we started sinking through the floor. We all make panicked sounds as we continued to sink. I struggled, but it was no use. My head went under. There was blinding white light. I lost consciousness.
