Jacob's scar was giving me peace as we travelled to the elders for guidance.
it looked like the red sea that Moses split with God's power - I learnt about God by my maid, it's amazing how humans can put all their faith into an entity they cant prove to be true but that type of faith is what I need in a moment like this.

"Where are you from Sapphire?" Jacob asked Sapphire who was sitting next to Devon like they were on bad terms but I know she didn't want to look too affectionate in public

I asked her to accompany us, I want a friend around and since Amira said I cant trust Cheryl, I've been keeping her at arms distance, Sapphire is all I can trust.

"Greyhound Pack." she replied stiffly in her army voice which made me smile a little, she's really turned into a real army  girl, like she wanted, "Like Elise."

Jacob nods his head slowly, "Would you leave the army if you found your mate?"

There are two ways you can mate with someone.

artificially or naturally.

Micah and I are artificial since we were put together through our own volition, others just feel attracted to others and you can just tell that's your mate.
Either way, when you create the bond any other bond you could have with someone else is broken immediately.

I saw Devon tense slightly which obviously Jacob caught too as he watched the dynamic between them.

"Why would having a mate make me leave?"

Jacob shrugs, "You could die, you die, he dies. Or she, if you roll that way." Sapphire looks at me and I simply shrug my shoulders not knowing what to say.

"You could die protecting Elise too, would you leave if your mate told you to?" Micah asked, this was a test really, I know micah doesn't trust Jacob with any fibre of his body and I can understand why.

An alpha just stays icelands just waiting for something to draw him back to reality? It's fishy to me too.

"The thing on my back means I'm blood bound with her majesty, protecting her is protecting myself." Micah nodded his head in response to what I think is actually a good answer, "Plus the person I wanted to be my mate died with the rest of my family in the fire."

I guess I can understand why he hid away in the north for so long, if he mated with her then maybe he would have been able to notice that she was in danger and get her out. maybe he blames himself.

I look at the scar on his face as he looks out the window, maybe there is a lot more to Jacob than I thought. The car as the car stopped in front of an old building.

To the human eye it would look like no one lived there but the old wolfric letters on the door say something else.

"Sapphire, Jacob and I will secure the area as you two enter." Devon instructs

"I have to stay close to her." Jacob replies and Devon looks at him blandly before looking at Micah for instruction.

"Actually, no one expect the royals can enter without permission." Micah informs and Jacob nods his head slowly

"So get permission." He retorts

"No." Micah's tone was final and it's clear that he doesn't have time for Jacob's games.

Jacob bows his head slightly as in submitting and I'm sure I saw Devon smile but he's good at hiding his facial expressions.

Devon leaves the car first and scans the area, being the head of the army his eyesight and hearing is heightened to the extreme, it's in his blood since the role is passed down the generations unless there is a challenger, "Clear."
Sapphire follows him outside and stands outside the car as Devon goes around the building.

"I'll be just outside." Jacob informs me, "No one will enter."

I give a brief nod, it's good to have someone so determined to ensure your well being.

Micah exited the car and turned around to give me a hand only to see me next to him already, he just shook his head and held my hand as we entered the house together.

like the Human contraption, the elders house is very much like a Tardis, really small outside but like a massive dark hole inside. it's almost like they knew we were coming, they were already in their traditional clothing in their situated seats.

the elders do not die of old age, they've lived though everything, hence the term elders. the only way to kill a member of the elders is to stab them in the heart and if that is done, their spirit is descended onto the next child born in the entire wolf race. The selection process is random but the spirit is the purest of pure.

This explains Niah Lockhart who currently sits on the end of the panel, she looks no older than 16 but her whole life is already planned.

she smiled down at me and I smiled back at her which was interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat

"Why have you disturbed our readings?" The eldest elder, Ophis who is apparently older than the late king.

"We have a conundrum wise ones," Micah replies, he met them all when he was born, you have to bring the your first born child to the elders for them to read your fate, you would think that they would have put in measures to ensure that none of this happened.

Each elder has the power of seeing the different possibilities an action can cause. each of them see a different scenario and they confer and weigh up the outcomes

"We know." Lilith replies, "Ask you questions."

"Amira says my birth mother is still alive and that she can help with -"

"With your mates current clock?" Delilah questions, "It's a pleasure to meet you, by the way, Elise." I nod my head in acknowledgement

"Yes, Congratulations on winning." Niah adds, "We were all rooting for you."

"Thank you," I smile, "It's an honour but all of that will mean nothing if we can not find a way to remove this curse."

"And you want to risk going to the witch lands and get it removed?" Ophris questioned

"Better yet, letting Micah see his biological mother when we all know what she's capable of. Are you really that selfish?" Winston Klin follows, everyone has stories of the mean elder Winston, some say he's like that because the other elders ripped him away from his mate and he still feels the stings when she's with other guys, others just say he's just mean.

"She's not selfish-"

"You do not know what they did Niah, It was before your time." Winston replied quickly, "We'll be dragged into a whole new war."

"A war they stated and want to end." Micah inserted, "Amira is now the sovereign and she wants our races to not be so hostile with each other."

"Let them be hostile, they deserve everything they get." Winston pushes before looking at this follow elders, "These new kids want everything to change because they is some bogus threat on the girls life, I say we wait it out and see what happens at the end of the months she has left."

I couldn't help but chuckle slightly at how ridiculous he is and he looks down at me

"Do you have something to say?" He probes

"Actually I have a lot to say but I doubt you would like it."

"Speak your mind, child." Ophis encourages

"Firstly, since you stay hidden in this little house, you clearly do not understand how it is outside of your land. Witches and Wolves are still at war. The war supposedly ended 21 years ago, so tell me why countless people are risking their lives over territories, for what? A man who has never even met the woman who started all of this? They've fought for him, let him fight for himself. Let us fight for ourselves. " I demand, "And it's nothing to do with being selfish but since you clearly do not have a mate you wouldn't understand how I feel to love a man who has caused this to happened to me, for me not even to be able to mate with him because it might decrease the time I have on this world. You want to talk about being selfish? I think you're selfish for not letting others get over something that had nothing to do with them in the first place. the fact that you're supposed to be with wise one baffles me when you come up with such stupidity but I wish when you sleep tonight that all your sorrows will vanquish and you'll be a better person." Niah nods her head and looks at Winston only to have him sneer at us, like we're below him when we are the royals here. I look up at Micah, "I think we've overstayed our welcome,"

He nods, "Contact us when you've changed your mind."

with that we leave the house that I don't think I'll ever be allowed back in.
