Jacob's scar was giving me peace as we travelled to the elders for guidance.
it looked like the red sea that Moses split with God's power - I learnt about God by my maid, it's amazing how humans can put all their faith into an entity they cant prove to be true but that type of faith is what I need in a moment like this.

"Where are you from Sapphire?" Jacob asked Sapphire who was sitting next to Devon like they were on bad terms but I know she didn't want to look too affectionate in public

I asked her to accompany us, I want a friend around and since Amira said I cant trust Cheryl, I've been keeping her at arms distance, Sapphire is all I can trust.

"Greyhound Pack." she replied stiffly in her army voice which made me smile a little, she's really turned into a real army  girl, like she wanted, "Like Elise."

Jacob nods his head slowly, "Would you leave the army if you found your mate?"

There are two ways you can mate with someone.

artificially or naturally.

Micah and I are artificial since we were put together through our own volition, others just feel attracted to others and you can just tell that's your mate.
Either way, when you create the bond any other bond you could have with someone else is broken immediately.

I saw Devon tense slightly which obviously Jacob caught too as he watched the dynamic between them.

"Why would having a mate make me leave?"

Jacob shrugs, "You could die, you die, he dies. Or she, if you roll that way." Sapphire looks at me and I simply shrug my shoulders not knowing what to say.

"You could die protecting Elise too, would you leave if your mate told you to?" Micah asked, this was a test really, I know micah doesn't trust Jacob with any fibre of his body and I can understand why.

An alpha just stays icelands just waiting for something to draw him back to reality? It's fishy to me too.

"The thing on my back means I'm blood bound with her majesty, protecting her is protecting myself." Micah nodded his head in response to what I think is actually a good answer, "Plus the person I wanted to be my mate died with the rest of my family in the fire."

I guess I can understand why he hid away in the north for so long, if he mated with her then maybe he would have been able to notice that she was in danger and get her out. maybe he blames himself.

I look at the scar on his face as he looks out the window, maybe there is a lot more to Jacob than I thought. The car as the car stopped in front of an old building.

To the human eye it would look like no one lived there but the old wolfric letters on the door say something else.

"Sapphire, Jacob and I will secure the area as you two enter." Devon instructs

"I have to stay close to her." Jacob replies and Devon looks at him blandly before looking at Micah for instruction.

"Actually, no one expect the royals can enter without permission." Micah informs and Jacob nods his head slowly

"So get permission." He retorts

"No." Micah's tone was final and it's clear that he doesn't have time for Jacob's games.

Jacob bows his head slightly as in submitting and I'm sure I saw Devon smile but he's good at hiding his facial expressions.

Devon leaves the car first and scans the area, being the head of the army his eyesight and hearing is heightened to the extreme, it's in his blood since the role is passed down the generations unless there is a challenger, "Clear."
Sapphire follows him outside and stands outside the car as Devon goes around the building.
