three.

"There are four of you. There are a total of 23 people, which means there are six groups. 5 or 6 of you will be left behind," The voice echoed.

"There is a bag, open it but do not take anything. There are three coins. Which means, you must decide who will not receive a coin," Instructed the woman.

In the room, was Brittany, Daniel, Clarence, and Dimitri. Brittany rushed forward, taking a coin.

"You three can battle it out. I'm safe," She smirked, holding the coin up.

Dimitri, a young man, only 17, tackled her. "You wanker! It's unfair!"

"Oh, Dimitrius. Nothing is fair. That, is life. Or in this case, death," The voice chipped in from above.

It felt as if the voice was everywhere and nowhere.

Clarence set his bag down before standing beside the two and pulled them apart. When they stood, he wrapped his hands around Brittany's throat, slamming her into a wall and gripping tighter.

"Let. Go."

"Never!"

He continued to press harder, and harder. Soon, her body fell, limp, to the floor.

Snatching the coin from her hand, he pressed the button on the wall.

"We've decided."

The doors opened, and the voice spoke.

Daniel nearly got sick right then and there.

"Wonderful. Keep moving. Not every group has finished, but begin heading into the next room," She bellowed.

...Is Phil alive?

As Dan walked, his chest felt heavy. The people around him were murderers. But then again, wasn't he, too?

The next room had three paintings on the wall. There was a dummy on the floor, a plastic gun in it's right hand and a red wound on the side of it's head. It looked to be a male. There was a fountain pen in his left hand. A note on the desk that looked to be a suicide note, on the right side. There, on the desk, was a lamp on the left side, and other papers.

"Your challenge is to deduct what happened here. Or, induct. You choose. Once you have your unanimous answer, you may press the button. Your time is not limited. Wrong answer, and you are left behind."

"She killed herself!" Clarence yelled, about to press the button, when Daniel stopped him.

"No. She was murdered," Dan said.

"You're an idiot, mate. There's a gun and suicide note," Clarence said.

"I'm left handed. When left handed people write, especially with ink, it smears. There are absolutely no smudges. And, how hard would it be to pull a trigger with your non dominate hand, let alone aim," Daniel said, pacing around the room.

"The unfortunate lad who killed her, forgot something else. Is your lamp on the left or right side of your desk? Normally, it would be on the side that your dominant hand is on. And, the papers," He noted, picking them up. "They have bits of smudged ink. There's also a bin on the left side on the desk, on the floor."

Clarence stood back as Dimitri pressed the button. "She was murdered."

There was silence, before the voice returned. "Correct."

As they moved on, Dan hadn't seen Phil. He hoped Phil was okay. Being left behind – that meant death, didn't it?

It did.

"All groups are now finished. You will all be placed in one room," And that was all the woman said before they were shoved into a room.

Everyone looked around, as the metal doors were shut, virtually invisible. There was a mirror on one wall, which Dan knew was a two way mirror. Great.

"Dan?" A familiar voice called out.

"Phil!" Daniel said, whipping around at his heels and running towards the man.

"Oh my god, you're okay. You're okay. Are you okay?" Dan said, hugging him tightly, afraid to ever let go. He wrapped his arms around Phil, squeezing him. Resting his head in the crook of Phil's shoulder, he held him.

"Who cares? I'm fine!" Phil said, squeezing Dan, lifting him.

"I care! I was so worried. I didn't see or hear you when we got taken, and when I woke up, you – you weren't there, and I thought that..." Dan trailed off. Saying that he thought Phil was dead would hurt too much to say it.

"Shhhh.. I know. I know," Phil cooed as he pulled away from Dan.

Daniel wanted to kiss him. He had loved Phil for nearly ten years. Phil's face lingered mere inches from Dan's.

Phil's hand gripped Dan's, and Daniel's warm skin met Phil's cold skin as their fingers intertwined.

"What now?" Daniel asked.

"I think we wait until the next stage," answered Phil.

"I'm scared." One man quietly murmured.

"This is just a test." Another voice spoke.

"I want to go home!"

"They're psychopaths! Let us out!"

People were yelling. Phil buried his head in Dan's chest and Daniel could do nothing but hold him and hold onto hope that everything would be alright.

Daniel knew he would do whatever it took to get out of here, with Phil by his side.

"Everyone, calm down. They'll give us instructions," one woman said. Her name was Pierre, and she was 21.

"Fuck off." Another girl replied, and her name was Chance.

Soon, everyone was sat down. They talked about themselves, and introduced themselves.

After the next few hours, nothing had happened.

Marlin, one of the oldest, complained, "I'm hungry!"

Others nodded in unison.

Soon, Clarence stood, screaming. Daniel hated screaming, and he shrunk himself into Phil's presence, intertwining their fingers.

Clarence yelled, shouting profanities and threats at the mirror.

Daniel flinched as Clarence brought up a fist, hitting the mirror. It cracked, and Clarence screamed.

He watched as Kendall, a male of 27, like Dan, walked up, trying to calm Clarence.

"Hey, listen. I know you're hungry and confused and tired, but you're going to hurt yourself," Kendall warned.

Six others ran to the mirror, pounding on the glass and screaming. Daniel could do nothing but keep Phil's hand in his, his arms wrapped around Phil, resting his head on Phil's shoulder. Dan felt Phil kiss his forehead.

Daniel sat with Phil on the floor, eleven others around them, pacing and crying.

"What's going to happen to us?" Phil asked.

"Us? Us?  I'm not letting anything happen to you. And to do that, I can't let anything happen to myself. You and I, we'll be alright. I promise," said Daniel, squeezing Phil's hand three time.

He only wished he could keep that promise.
