Monday, March 19, 2018: Link's perspective
Everything was quiet and still. Link had been in that room by himself for the past three days, and it was starting to take a big toll on him. Whenever he would start thinking about something, it would appear in the room. The room wasn't even white anymore. It was completely black, because Link's thoughts were so negative and dark. Every time he would think about something, even something minor, it would appear in the room. One time, when he was sleeping in this magical room, he woke up thinking that he was at his home. He thought that he had forgotten to feed his dog, Jade. "Oh, man. I forgot to feed Jade... Jade! Hold on, I know you're hungry", he had said. Then, he looked around and remembered that he was possibly hundreds of miles away from his family, his home, and his dog.
In the blink of an eye, she had appeared about three feet in front of him. She started walking towards him and whining, wanting him to pet her. It had all seemed so, so real to him. Link had reached his hand out towards her, smiling all the while. As soon as he had got closer to touching her, she had disappeared into thin air. Just like everything else that he had brought into that room with his imagination. He had brushed his fingers along the place on which she had been standing, and then banged on the floor out of mere frustration.
That Monday at 11:00, though, was different. Link was laying in the middle of the now black floor of the peculiar room. His eyes were closed, but he wasn't sleeping. His glasses were off. He still had a pretty bad headache, his shoulder was more than likely painfully dislocated, and his hair was all matted and in knots.
All of a sudden, a distant pounding sound filled his ears. It echoed through the room that he was in. He opened his eyes and achingly sat up. He listen for a minute. The pounding stopped and he heard the scream of someone who was in a lot of pain. He knew that scream anywhere. The pounding started again. "R-Rhett?", Link said with a scratchy voice. The pounding only got louder and harder. "Rhett! No!", Link stood up with difficulty, quickly put his glasses on, and ran over to the wall where he could best hear the pounding.
"Don't let him kill you! P-PLEASE! I-I CAN'T LOSE Y-YOU!", Link beat on the wall with his hands, even with his throbbing head and battered shoulder tearing him apart. Tears were pouring down his face; he was surprised that he had any left in him. He ran over to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked. "Ugh!", he yelled in desperation. He was so, so worried. He didn't think that Rhett was okay. He didn't know that Rhett was trying to escape.
When Link heard the repetitive pounding and Rhett's agonizing scream, he thought that the Figure was punching Rhett over and over again... or kicking him... or hitting him with something. The pounding stopped again. The sound never again filled his ears. Link stopped banging on the walls and stood still. A look of despair crossed his face. "Th-that's it.", he said. "Rhett's gone. He's gone. All gone.", he rambled on. Water-filled drops were still running down his face. He thought of Rhett laying on the floor of the dark, dark room; dead. Link imagined blood pouring from Rhett's beat-up body. Link turned around, no longer facing the wall.
What he saw laying on the floor had broken him to pieces. He saw exactly what he had imagined: Rhett was laying there in front of him, sprawled out. His lip was busted, and his head was pouring out blood. He was scratched and bruised up.
Link fell onto his knees, slowly took his glasses off, and put his head in his hands. He covered his eyes while he sobbed. Sobbed harder than he ever had in his life. "I... love... you... b-brother....", he looked up at Rhett. "And.... you're... in... a... a better.... place n-now", Link crawled over to him.
Then, Link started thinking. "Wait... the Rhett laying in front of me isn't even real. I'm imagining this. Rhett isn't dead. I know he isn't!", he furrowed his brow, wiped his tears away, grabbed his glasses, and put them on. He reached out to touch the Rhett that was in front of him, and, sure enough, the imaginary Rhett disappeared. Link's lips formed into a small smile. "He could still be alive! He can't be dead... or could he?". Link had confused himself. He quickly frowned again.
He took off his disfigured glasses and lay back down on the cold floor of the very peculiar room.
