Some campers from the city are in a national forest reserve, camping for the summer. They decide to go hiking, leaving their campsite without putting out their fire. However, it's been a dry year, and the environment is susceptible to wildfires. Fortunately, the wildfire isn't large and was easily contained, thanks to the Hotshots, firefighters specialized in putting out wildfires. But heavy damage was still caused.
As if to give payback, Smokey the Bear, a mascot of the park, lumbers to the irresponsible campers' campsite, and getting sticks, oil, and embers from their fire, set their tents aflame. Smokey, being a firm believer in over-kill, also begins eating their food as the tents burn into tatters. He then lumbers away back to his den, satisfied with his revenge. Boy, will they be surprised!
When the campers return from hiking, they are dismayed to find their entire campsite ravaged and burned to the ground. Angry, they report it to the park rangers, who then tell them that there had been a wildfire that they had just recently put out. When the rangers find out the cause of the wildfire to begin with, they arrest the campers for destruction of the forest. And then having to pay a huge fine each to compensate for the damage.
Needless to say, they never went camping again.
