Peculiar and Complicated Love

Episode #5: Insanity

My head hurts so much and also feels sore around my temples. Plus my back also feels like old wood so when I move it cracks in certain places and also hurts too. Then I hear a beeping that did sound similar to the machine that keeps track of your heartbeat. I recognize it from the time I had to get my tonsils removed when I was younger.

Finally, I open my eyes to see a creepy room that has mold growing in the cracks on the wall and it's a gross smell. In addition, the lights were dull from the light bulbs appearing to be close to dying out and that makes me anxious. I am bound by the hands and feet to an uncomfortable chair, which I am not sure why. I also notice that an adhesive tape is keeping the needle secure in my right arm to prevent it from popping out, which is connected to an ivy bag. Lastly, there is a plastic device on my thumb, which is connected to the machine that shows the frequency and wavelength of my heartbeat. 

How did I get here? Why am I here? It is the thoughts that are circling around in my mind. All I can remember is that I was talking to my best friend and I thought I was going to be late for class and then blank. Why don't I remember anything after that? I then said aloud in a scared voice , "Is anyone here? Please, anyone answer back. I don't know why I am here!" After I said that a voice finally answered back, "It's okay, young lady. I am here. I have been watching over you since you fainted at school".

Then I became confused because I didn't see anyone on the ground or above. So in reply I said, "Where are you? I can't see you?" The voice didn't respond right away leaving me in silence so I got irritated, but out of my agitation claws appeared on my hand instead of regular fingernails and I also felt something weird coming from my head and buttocks.

I then looked to see in surprise a long cat tail with cat ears on my head, which replaced my regular ears. Next, I start to hyperventilate and was only able to calm myself when I heard him speak again. "The reason you can't see me is that I have the ability to be invisible just like how you are able to have cat claws, ears, and a tail".

I didn't believe him so in response, "Your crazy. I am just imagining that I have cat like features. It is just not possible". He made a sound of being displeased. "Alright, if you don't believe me. I will show you". After he said that an attractive young man materialized in front of me. He was a bit unusual because of his elf like ears and strange attire, but besides that he is cute with his dark green hair and warm yellow eyes. He smiled from  look on my face. I regain composure and say, "Wow, I guess things like having cat appendages and you being able to be invisible at will is possible after all". "Yes it is, but only a special few can have these abilities and physical features. My name is Dren,  if you are curious. I have been looking after you because you are unique and important Zoey. And before you ask I don't eavesdrop, but I heard your name when you fainted.

Therefore, I am warning you that those who are here will try to hurt you. Plus don't tell them about me because they won't believe you and thus put you in an asylum". I was touched by his concern for me so I said, "That's kind of you to warn me Dren, but I am a strong independent woman. Thus I can take care of myself. Based upon the make up of this room and the equipment it appears to be an old hospital. So why would the doctors want to harm me?" Dren was deep in thought before he spoke and then said, "It's because you have a supernatural ability to have physical characteristics of a cat, well, actually an endagerned cat species. Therefore, they want to try to use any means necessary to find out why and then use it for an ill-intent ulterior motive". I was about to ask him more but, he disappeared. Then I was about to say something to him for being rude when the door opened.

By the looks of the two people entering the room it is a nurse and doctor. I quickly check if I still looked like a cat, but thankfully the claws, ears and tail went away. The doctor spoke first, "Hello, Zoey. I am Doctor Zeffer and this is nurse Periwinkle. I am also glad you are awake and based on your health chart you have no substantial injuries after you fainted.  Unfortunately something in the lab works from your CAT scan had an error, which explains alot". Everything she said made sense to me except for a few things.

In reply I ask, "Why am I tied to this chair? And also, Why can't I remember anything after the incident of me fainting?" After I asked my questions the doctor reassuringly answered, "As I was saying we rechecked the CAT scan and actually found you had a concussion. It caused your amnesia and because of that you  then had a psychosis in which you were screaming weird things such as being a cat like monster.

However,  based on your mental condotion you were not thinking straight. Therefore you could not distinguish between your imagination and reality. So resulting from your pyschosis made you try to injury our staff. Then you were about to hurt yourself when we injected the meds to calm you down and thus you fell asleep.

In that moment I believe them because that is a more logical explanation, which then made me question about meeting Dren. Was I just having another episode? Was Dren even real? Or am I actually going crazy? All of these questions made me go deep into the depths of mind until I was disconnected from reailty.
