At school the next day I noticed someone new. He was about 6 feet and had black hair. I have never seen him before but he seemed to be chatting with one of the school teachers. Could he be a new student? Strange
"Hey cupcake" I heard from behind me and I felt Steve's arm wrap around my waist. I imidiently smiled
"Hi" I said
"How is my cupcake today?"
"I am feeling great" I say and give him a kiss
"I am glad to hear that" he says with a smile
"Come on we need to head to class" he tells me and I nod
"Hey Steve did you see the new guy today?" I asked as soon as we took a seat on our desk. We are sitting together now and Hannah is with Tyler.
"What new guy?" he asks me and then the teacher comes with the boy that I saw before
"Okay class, please greet our new student, Eddie Jackson" and then Eddie took a seat on an empty desk and class continued. I could see that Steve has turned white and clearly there is something wrong with him. Could he know Eddie? But from where and why does he not look happy to see him?
"I have to get to class cupcake we will talk later" Steve said before kissing me goodbye. I found Hannah and Tyler and decided to ask them if they knew anything about Eddie
"Well I think he came from New York" Tyler replied
"I have not heard anything. Nobody seems to know him. I guess he is just a normal teenager, nothing to worry" Hannah shrugged
"Yeah you are right but Steve seems to know him because he turned white as soon as he saw him and I am not sure why"
"Well if he is from New York it is possible that they know each other. You should ask him Beth" Tyler said and Hannah agreed. I guess they are both right. I headed to class but bumped into Eddie on the way there
"Oh sorry I did not see you there" he said helping me up
"It's okay I did not see where I was going. You are Eddie Jackson right?" I ask him
"The one and only" he said smiling
"I am Beth Johnston, nice to meet you"
"Can you please tell me where is Mrs. Williams class? She is teaching calculus"
"Yes I am heading there now care to walk with me?"
"Sure" he says and we head to class together
"Where were you before here Eddie if you don't mind me asking?"
"I was in New York and I decided to get here. My father god a job here and we moved together here"
"Oh that's nice" I tell him
"And you Beth have you been living here all your life?"
"Yes I have"
"Would you like to show me around the city if that's okay? I don't have any friends and so far you are the only one who started a conversation with me"
"Sure I'm okay with it"
"Alright cool. Can I have your phone number so we can talk?"
I shrugged and gave him my phone number.
"Okay thanks Beth" he said and took a seat
"What were you doing with him?" I hear Steve say as he approaches me
"Relax I was just helping him find the class"
"Look cupcake I really don't want you to hang out with him, he is bad news"
"So you know him?"
"Oh yes Steve and I go way back right brother?" Eddie says with a smile
"I am not your brother and I want nothing to do with you anymore"
"Shame shame" he said and walked back to his seat since Mrs. Williams entered the classroom
After school finished I confronted Steve but he would not budge
"I told you he is bad news. We used to hang out before but no longer" and that's all I got from him
I headed home and called Hannah to let her know about the incident
"Well Beth, if Steve told you he is bad news then maybe it's because he does not like him. I talked to him and so did Tyler. He was really nice and gave no reason to doubt him. I do not want to get in the middle of your relationship but it's up to you"
"You're right. I will go out with him and if he does anything weird I will stop talking to him" I told her and hanged up. Then called Eddie who answered on the first ring
"Hello"
"Hey Eddie, its Beth"
"Oh hi Beth, how are you?"
"I am fine and I was wondering if you still want to show you around"
"Oh yes sure, I have to finish my homework first and then we will meet"
"Yeah I have some homework as well so let's say we meet in about two hours sound good?"
"Yeah no problem"
"Okay would you like me to pick you up or will we meet somewhere?"
"If it's okay with you to pick me up because I do not drive"
"Oh sure" he says and we hang up after I give him my address
After I have finished with my homework I check the time and see that I still have some time so I head to Steve's and Rachel answers the door
"Hey Beth how are you?"
"Good Rachel, how are things with Paul?"
"Great he is really nice to me. I really like him" she says with a smile
"I am glad to hear that"
"Steve is upstairs" she tells me and I nod
"Hey Rachel do you know Eddie Jackson?"
"You mean the new student?"
"Yes"
"No I have not heard that name before nor seen his face"
"He says that he knows Steve"
"That explains why he is so worked up today. I do not know anybody he used to hang out with since he kept them away from the house in case things went south but I am guessing this is not good news"
"He acted strange at school after seeing him"
"I wish I could help Beth" she said and I headed upstairs to see Steve on the bed. His face lit up when he saw me
"Hey cupcake" he says and I sit next to him
"I am sorry for snapping at you today at school" he says
"It's okay. But who is Eddie?"
"He is one of the people I used to hang out with, not the person you want to get involved with"
"I am going out with him today"
"What? Are you out of your mind?" he shouts at me
"Hey don't yell at me!" I told him and he apologized imidiently
"Look Beth he is not a good person, please stay away from him"
"He is nothing but kind to me I don't see anything bad"
He sighed
"Okay Beth, I don't want to tell you with who you can hang out with but promise you will be careful okay?"
"I promise" I tell him and hug him
Then my phone rings and it is Eddie telling me that in 10 minutes he will be there.
"Okay I have to go now" I tell Steve and he nods
"If anything happens call me" he tells me and I leave. His face was sad like he was disappointed at me
