Waking up the next morning was probably one of the most painful things I ever had to do. The thought that I had to hand Kevin a note saying that I wanted to run away with Catelynn and him was terrifying, especially considering he used to beat me up. Only thing is, how did I even know he was telling the truth? How did I know that he wasn't just trying to spread rumors about me that were true? My anxiety plagued my mind, but I refused to let it get to me. I had decided to give him the note during school, because then he'd have longer to think it over. Plus, it was poetry. I didn't want to hand him a poem and expect him to respond after just reading it.
I sighed and got up, grabbing an outfit I would usually wear — black leggings and a black top, with a pair of black high top vans. I only wore black because it took away from my bruises, and when they were covered, no one noticed them anyways. I put my outfit on the counter and undressed, hopping in the shower and washing my hair. Catelynn always got up before me so that she could make both of us breakfast, even if she only fixed us bowls of cereal some days. She even packed us lunches. To be honest, she was like the mom I never had, and she was 4 yeas younger than me.
I got dressed and brushed my hair. Heading downstairs, I ran up to Catelynn and hugged her from behind. "Hey Cate, what's for breakfast?"
"Haha, hey Ev! I just made your favorite; Waffles!"
"Yes! Your waffles are the best, Cate! Thank you so much!"
"No problem, Ev!"
We sat down and ate, but Catelynn had to get up to leave, and I promised her I'd clean the dishes. School for her started 30 minutes before mine, so I usually had time to finish eating, and then wash the dishes before brushing my teeth and grabbing my bag and keys to drive off. Luckily, today was one of those days. I finished up eating and washed the dishes, like I promised. Heading upstairs I went into my bathroom and brushed my teeth, quickly grabbing my bag and heading downstairs. I grabbed my keys, but before I could open the door, I heard yelling. "You pathetic woman, get out of my damn bed! You don't do anything for this family! I'm sick of you! Get out of here and get to your damn day-job before I kick you out of my house, will ya! I hate you, ya hear? I HATE YOU!" Sighing at my father's yelling rampage, I opened the door and closed it behind me, unlocking my car and starting up the engine. I turned on my music, and saw the door open behind me. It was my mother. I sighed. Turning up my music, I pulled out of the driveway and made my way to school.
After a long drive, I parked my car and turned off my music. Opening my door and grabbing my bag and keys, I slipped out my poem, and held it firmly in my hand. I was going to get the poem to Kevin one way or another, and I'd do everything in my power to make sure that Catelynn was safe, even if that meant I had to run away with her. I had a plan. After school, I'd go to the store and buy three big blankets. I'd get tons of non perishable food, and some water too. Hopefully, I'd be able to get a lighter, some charcoal, and fire starters, along with a small grill rack so we could cook some stuff if needed. Then, I'd buy some kitchen knives and other kitchen supplies so that Catelynn could still cook.
I walked into the building with a sigh, and before I knew it, Kevin was standing there, right in front of me. I poked him on the back, fear and anxiety coursing through my blood, and as he turned around I saw everyone staring at me. Shaking, I handed him the poem and dashed off, still feeling everyone's eyes on me.
Eventually I made it to my locker, only to get slammed into it from behind. "You disgusting, ugly little-"
"I'd watch my mouth if I were you, Liza." I heard Kevin say.
"Um, excuse me? Who do you think you are? You hate her just as much as everyone else, if not more."
"Actually, I don't hate her. She's a sweet girl, unlike you and your pathetic friends." He retorted, scowling.
"Since when are you and little-miss emo over here 'friends'? " She pushed, trying to break me down.
"Since you started being an irrational little-" Mr. Thompson cut him off.
"Language, Jones." He snapped, walking off in a slight fit. Since Mr. Thompson was the school's football coach, he had to watch what his players said. Kevin wasn't a quarter-back, but he was still a part of the team. He was the team's best running back. It'd be a shame for him to disappear on the team like what we planned, but we both need to get out so we can save ourselves.
"Hmph!" Liza complained, walking off.
"So, Everly... I have a plan."
