Fear. That's what Tom was running from. Fear itself.

He ran down the endless corridor, trying to lose the blank cloud of nothingness. He ran and ran, as fast as his legs would carry him, but they came to a wall.

  D***, he thought. Cornered.

Panic started to kick in as the cloud approached.

"What do you want?!" Tom screamed, to which the could replied with a strange growling noise.

"W-what?" Tom's voice quivered as he spoke.

The cloud surrounded him, engulfing him in an endless black void of smoke.

  ...

"AHH!" Tom jolted into a bolt up-right position. He attempted to catch his breath as his sister and Edd rushed in.

  "Tom?" Edd asked.

  "What's wrong?!" Tory questioned worriedly.

Tom quickly tried to think of a lie. He looked around at their worried faces and it hit him.

"Uhh, y-yeah, I'm fine," he chuckled, looking at Edd. "Almost fell out my bed, is all." He smiled at them. Edd started to worry less, taking one last look at his friend before walking out of the room.

"What actually happened?!" Tory attacked her brother quickly after the door shut.

Tom looked at her, seeing the determination in her eyes.

"I told you, I almost fell out my bed," Tom lied.

"Don't play me for a fool, Thomas. Now, I'm going to as again; What happened?" Her voice was stern and impatient.

Tom sighed. No point in lying to her, he thought.

"Remember whenever I got a bad feeling, I would have this weird, reoccurring dream about-"

"The Fear Cloud?" Tory interrupted, to which Tom nodded.

"Remember how ever since Tord left, I'd have that dream? And how after I shot him with a harpoon, how after I thought he was dead, it stopped?" Tom asked. Tory nodded.

  "But, I-it's not-"

  "Back? Yeah, it is."

Tory's instincts took over, and like a detective on a crime scene, she started asking questions. Questions Tom couldn't answer. Not yet, anyway.

"Any idea why it's back? Is it Tord? Is it Tyler? Is there a problem in Afghanistan?" After many other questions, which all came out the same answer from Tom, a shrug, Tory gave up.

"We will get to the bottom of why it's back. I promise." She hugged her older brother. After awhile, Tom melted into it. Tory silently smiled and pulled away.

"C'mo, Edd's almost got breakfast ready." She said, pulling Tom up.

Hey guys! Lorien_The_Wolf here! Sorry for the long wait, I've been out of town recently and I have not had the right motivation. But just today, a few minutes ago, my friend Ashley told me something that got my spirits back up. She asked me, "You wrote 'Chances', right?" And I replied with a yes. She then proceeded to tell me that her step-sister, Lessley, read my story and enjoyed it. She also said Lessley asked when the next chapter was gonna be out. Hearing that really made me happy to know that people out there other than my friends are reading my story and ACCUALLY ENJOYING IT!!!! X3 I want to thank you all for this support, especially during this time in my life! Recently, on May 26th, my dog, Star, passed away. And to see all this support really lifts my spirits! Well, I'm gonna stop ranting now and let you all go. Lorien_The_Wolf out!! <3
