I sat alone at the Café just down the road from my house. It was a small café in a small village. The village was one of those small ones where everyone knows everyone, no one really moves in and no one really moves out. I was of course the dreamer of the place. I wanted to get out and live my life and do something else. Everyone supported me in that, but no one really wanted me to leave. Especially not my dad. It was just me and my dad. Mum didn't die or anything, it's just they got divorced. I still see my mum some times, but I just can't be bothered with her. Dad is still convinced she's coming back, but I know she won't. I try telling him, and telling him, he just doesn't believe me. Like I said, he's convinced. But I don't want mum back. If she didn't want to be with us, I don't want to be with her. She left for some other bloke, older, richer. Bitch. That's what she is. A bitch. So just me and Dad. He just sits around in his workshop, making cabinets and stuff for the people of the town. He's really good at it, but I can tell he isn't happy. When mum was still with us, he's write songs on the piano, take us all out for hikes, blast music from the house and have BBQ's at any old time, but of course, she left. So he makes things out of wood. Fun. I, on the other hand, want to travel the world. See all the sights, learn about all the cultures, take lots of pictures. If I can get out of this place. To get a place somewhere else, I need to get money. However there aren't many jobs around here, so that's a struggle. I'm probably gonna be stuck here for the whole of my life, but I can dream. I will work as hard as I can to get out, but even if I do fail, at least I know I've tried. I can live with that.
"Cassy, honey, are you almost done?" Mandy, The owner of the café, asked me.
"Yeah, almost. Why the rush to get rid of me?" I teased. I knew she didn't want to get rid of me per say, but still.
"We have some people coming to the café from London. Camera crew and things. I think a lad wants to film a video for his song." She said as she wiped up a table just next to me. So she did want me gone.
"Oh really? Who is this Lad?" I hoped it was someone I'd heard of. Maybe that would be my ticket out of here.
"Something beginning with G... Geoff maybe? I'm not sure, I'm not really into all this new music thing... Anyway, I must get on. We're closing in about 10 minutes, so that would be an ideal time to go..." She walked off behind the counter. I followed her. I was allowed around the back as Mandy was one of dad's friends. She'd been there to look after me since I was about 4. I thought she was more of a mother than my own.
"Do you need a hand with it? I don't mind helping out. I'll be good as gold, promise Mandy." I wanted to meet this 'Geoff' guy... If that was his name.
"What's with the sudden urge to help? You never want to help..." She stopped what she was doing and gave me one of those 'What do you want from me...' type of looks.
"If I tell you, you won't let me help." I jumped up onto the counter and started swinging my legs.
"Let me guess... You want to meet the people that are coming, buddy up with them, and get them to take them with you..."
"Pretty much." I winked at her. She could read me like a book.
"Not today honey. We're only talking about what we could do for the video. I have to contribute to it because it's my café, and I don't want them messing it up."
"Okay, I see where I'm not wanted," I jumped off the counter and headed towards the door, "But that means I'm working tomorrow!" I called back as I walked out the doors. Geoff, I thought to myself, I think she got the name wrong... I can't think of a famous Geoff that sings. I continued walking down the street, lost in my thoughts, until they were rudely interrupted by some car with tinted windows pulled up next to me and rolled the window down.
