The Interview

Chapter 10

"Blue, you know why I brought you here?" Kodie asked.

Blue looked around. "For the frozen yogurt?"

Kodie was having some one on one time with Blue at her favorite frozen yogurt spot.

Kodie looked around. "Well yes but I came to talk to you too."

"Okay." She said nodding as she continued to eat.

"You remember how I said that mommy and daddy weren't my blood mommy and daddy?"

"Yes but we're still sisters." Blue said.

"Yeah, that." Kodie said. "Well I took a test to find out who my real mommy is."

"You did? Is it really your mommy?"

"I don't know yet." Kodie said and then pulled the envelope out of her pocket.

"Do you wanna know?"

"Kind of. If that is my real mommy, you remember Yazz?" Kodie asked.

"Mmhmm." She said with frozen yogurt in her mouth.

"He'll be my brother so that's cool."

"Mine too?" She asked.

"I'm pretty sure he'll agree to that." Kodie said smiling.

"So let's find out."

Kodie took a deep breath while looking at Blue. She started to open the envelope. She read through it.

"What does it say?" Blue asked.

"Yazz is our brother now." Kodie said.

Kodie didn't know how to feel in that moment. Happy that Yazz was really her brother or disappointed that Yvette was her birth mother.

"Don't worry." Blue said. "Mommy and daddy still your mommy and daddy."

Blue picked up on her mood quickly.

"You know what? You right and you, Rumi, and Sir are still my little sisters and brother."

"Yep, now you just got an extra brother and mommy. Nothing changed. You still you." She said smiling.

"Wow Blue, I gotta start telling you all my problems." Kodie said

"You can." She said shrugging.

"I love you, you know that?" Kodie said and Blue nodded.

"Love you too Koko."

After their ice cream session they went back to the house. Blue ran into Beyoncé first.

"Mommy, Kodie has another mommy." Blue said.

"She does?" Beyoncé asked then Kodie walked into the kitchen.

Kodie held up the open envelope.

"Oh, she does."

"Yeah and Yazz is her brother and he's gonna be mines too." She said.

"Oh, I'm sure he'd like that you just have to ask him." Beyoncé said.

"Koko said she'd ask." Blue said. "Can I go play?"

"Yeah, go ahead. Be careful." She said before Blue took off.

Beyoncé looked at Kodie standing near the kitchen island. She slowly made her way over. She pulled Kodie closer to her as she sat down.

She hugged Kodie while sitting in the chair.

"Go ahead, I got you." Beyoncé said as Kodie began to silently cry in her neck.
