"Sam, he was the cutest little boy... he was so small and his smile! Oh, his smile!" Jessica says throwing her head back into the pillow.

"It sounds like you're in love."

"No, it's not that. I just hope that he finds the right home, you know? You heard about the case... that boy deserves the world."

"He does, hopefully god gives him the world and more."

Jessica rolls over onto sam's chest and rests her head right on top of it.

"I wish you could have met him."

"I want to... where can I?" He asks

Jessica sits up and gives Sam a puzzled look.

"Sam?"

"Jess, you said he deserves the world. I bet we can give it to him. I want to meet him."

Jessica shakes her head and runs her hands through her hair. "I don't know, Sam... adoption, it's a big deal."

"I understand that. But we can do it. We can bring him into our family. We can have a son together."

"Sam... we can't."

"Why can't we?"

In that moment Jessica didn't have an answer for him. She just sighed. It was a big deal. Not just adopting but bringing a child into their family, especially for his age. He's been through so much. Jessica didn't really know if she was up for the challenge. well, she was, but the challenge intimidated her.

"We should seriously think about this." Sam says

Jessica nods slowly then smiles. "Okay, we should."

A few days later-

They wanted to have Olivia and Sean together to talk about this big step Sam and Jessica might be taking, but they couldn't wait any longer. They had to speak with at least one of them.

"What's going on? Did someone die?" Olivia asks

Jessica shakes her head. "No! Not at all."

"Actually, it's about something your mom and I have been discussing for a few days. We wanted to talk to you and soon Sean, about it."

"Nothing is for sure yet..."

"Okay, I'm curious now. Shoot, what it is?"

Sam and Jessica go on to explain, and the whole time Olivia was blank. It was hard to read her and know if she was up for it or not.

"So, what do you think?"

"I mean, you've only met him once... none of us have even met him." Olivia says to Jessica

"I know that... but Olivia, when you meet him you'll love him. He has so much spirit in his little heart. Even after all he's been through."

"All he's been through will be a lot of baggage... therapy, break downs, what if his family tries to take him back?"

"Olivia, we've all had our problems. Part of the reason we want to do this is to help him and give him a chance at a better life. I know there is a lot that comes with adoption."

"It's a good idea, I love where you guys are coming from, truly, but mom, would you be able to go through that heart break if it doesn't work out?"

"We have to try, Olivia. We never know until we try." Sam says

//-//

"That's great mom, that you guys want to do this... really... but it's a lot. Adoptions don't always work out. It can last months and years."

"We know that, Sean. But we have to try."

"I'm happy for you guys and I'm glad that you want to do this... but isn't it easier to just have a baby?"

Jessica rolls her eyes "Sean, please. Just think about the little boy."

"I'm not saying no, it's not my decision. I'll support you guys in whatever. I just can't say much because I've never met him, you know?"

They both sigh and nod, knowing that Sean was right. "We understand. Thank you, Sean." Sam says politely

"Yeah... id like to meet him when I come home for spring break, though."

"Okay! Great!" Jessica smiles

After the conversation ends Jessica covers her face and groans.

"I feel like they aren't on board!"

"They are... just in a weird way. I think they don't know how you feel because you haven't met him."

"But you haven't either..."

"I see how passionate you are towards this. That's why I'm on board. And I want a child with you Jess. I think god throws stuff at us like us, or at you in this case, for a reason."

"I do too. You'll meet him soon, I promise."

"Dennis, just the man I wanted to see!" Jessica says walking into his office

"Hey Jess! Didn't we just have a meeting not to long ago?"

"Well we did..."

"I'm just teasing! It's always great to see you. Please sit." He says pulling out a chair

Jessica sits down and smiles.

"So! What can I help you with?"

"Logan, actually..." She says shyly

"Aww, Logan... heh, he's a good kid." Dennis smiles

"He is. That's why I actually wanted to know what his whole situation is right now. Where he is..."

"Let me check! I'm pretty sure I just got a memo from Wendy that he's being placed in a great home this Sunday."

Jessica's heart sank. "Do they want to adopt him?"

"Well, foster him at first. But yes. I hope it works out."

"Dennis, Sam and I wanted to think about adopting him ourselves."

Dennis pauses and looks up at Jessica. In a way he was shocked. She has worked with many children before. He didn't think she'd be this attached.

"Jessica, you can't do that." He says

Jessica crosses her arms. "Why not?"

"Because, you're on his fathers case. You can't have any personal relations with Logan or his family if you want to win this case."

"Then I will drop it and find someone else."

"You said you want justice for his mother... I believe you're the only one who can give that to her and make him rot!"

"Please, Dennis! Anyone in my office can make him suffer. You don't need me, anyways!"

"We do Jessica. Listen, I have the upmost respect for you, but don't do this. This process will be a nightmare... the jury will question if what you say in court is relevant, so much goes into it. He has a family that wants him." Dennis says sincerely

"Jessica Dennis... I only got to spend a little bit of time with him, but his energy and spirit just made me fall in love with him."

"Maybe it's best that you don't see him again. You have to let go of this."

Jessica sighs and looks down at the floor. She knew that this little dream was over. She was heartbroken but she couldn't think about it any longer. Dennis was right, even though she hated to admit it.

"I'm sorry, Jess." Sam says running her arm

"I am too. For becoming so attached to this little child."

"There are so many children out there, though."

"This was a one time thing, Sam. I'm sorry..." she says as she gets up and leaves the table.
