Thoughts in Italics

The alarm. It wouldn't stop. Usually, I would use my powers to stop it, but it didn't seem to be working. Maybe I just can't concentrate. I stood up and focused on the alarm, but it still blared on. Slowly, a thought dawned on me. I can't use my powers. I can't use my powers! A smile slowly spread over my face. Finally, a day where I could pretend to be normal without the normal flood of other peoples thoughts! I hurriedly dressed and ran downstairs, grabbing a coffee jelly from the fridge. "Bye Mom!" The sound of my voice outside the confine on my head sounded strange but nice. "Kuu?" I raced down the streets then stopped, realizing that I had no way to avoid Nendou. "Hey, Buddy!" Right on cue. He placed a hand on my shoulder and I tensed, unused to not being able to throw him with my powers. He lightly pushed on my shoulder and started walking to PK high, tugging me along with him.

The walk to school was silent, and I jumped each time someone walked past. Even Nendou noticed. "Whoa buddy, you ok?" I nodded "I'm fine" Nendou. He looked at me with concern but shrugged. Kuboyasu suddenly walked up and clapped a hand to my shoulder. I flinched enough that he took notice. "Whoa, you ok there?" Nendou looked over. "He's been doing that all morning." I cleared my throat. "I'm fine." We finally arrived at PK and I sighed with relief. It took so long to walk without my powers. We slid the door to the classroom open and I took my seat, hoping no one would walk up. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Hairo had run over. "Hey, Saiki! Our class is going to Karaoke tonight, want to come?" I was about to decline, then remembered the amazing dessert they had. "Sure." He grinned. "Great! Be there around 5 ok?" The bell rang and I settled back down into my chair, zoning out as the teacher began lecturing. A voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts. "Saiki, can you get the answer?" I stood and took the chalk, solving the problem in a matter of seconds and sat back to stunned silence. Looking back up to the board, I paled. Crap, with my powers gone, I wasn't thinking enough about holding back. "Good job Saiki!" I sighed. At least no one seemed to think to much of it.

5 o'clock seemed to arrive all to soon, as I walked with Nendou to the Karaoke place, I noticed that Nendou seemed a bit more hyper than usual. I wonder what's up with him... As we arrived at the Karaoke place, Nendou was practically vibrating with excitement. I entered cautiously, in case my classmates had something planned, but it was just Hairo making sure we knew where to go. I walked ahead of Nendou and happily signed up for a random song after I saw that I would be last. I can just order a dessert and be out of here then. I ordered, then sat on the couch, trying to ignore the rest of the class, as most of them had terrible voices or were trying to woo Teruhashi, who was singing about how perfect she was. Thankfully, my dessert was placed in front of me. With my horrible luck though, it was quickly snatched away. Hairo stood in front of me holding it with a terrified expression on his face. "Please Saiki! Go sing with Nendou! Mabye your voice will take the edge off of how terrible his is!" I was about to say no when the rest of the class rushed in front of me an offered to buy me a cooler full of coffee jelly if I did. On second thought, singing with Nendou doesn't sound so bad.

I grudgingly stood up beside Nendou and took the offered microphone, sighing at the thankful faces of everyone in the class. All for the coffee jelly. Do it for the coffee jelly. The music started playing, and I tried to remember what the name of the song was. Something about making history I think. I postioned myself a little bit away from in case he really was as bad as everyone was saying he was. He took a deep breath and opened his mouth, and as everyone leaned back subconsciously, began to sing. Instantly a hush fell over the room. His voice was incredible. It was smooth, but deep, like a still lake you could throw a rock into just to lose it to the depths moments later. I looked around and actually saw a tear in a couple peoples eyes. I was so surprised that I barely started singing at my cue. My voice still sounded strange outside of my head, but I didn't sound bad at all. In fact, my higher voice seemed to compliment Nendous' quite nicely. I shrugged before losing myself in the beat and singing, smiling despite myself. The song ended and I looked up at Nendou. We had ended up only a few inches apart, staring at each other while singing. A sudden burst of applause and whistling snapped me back to reality and I put more distance between myself and Nendou, turning back to the class.

"That was incredible! Your voices sounded amazing together! Nendou how did you learn to sing so well?" Nendou shuffled his feet nervously and chuckled. "Mom said I sounded like crap and made me take lessons." Hairo beamed at me and handed me my dessert back, which I clutched possessively, making him laugh. "Man you really have a sweet tooth." I just glared. "Wow. Your voice is almost as good as mine!" I rolled my eyes at Teruhashi before Hairo butted in again. "Are you kidding!? It's way better! Saiki and Nendou's voices are the best here. Sorry, but you're only about third place."
