A birthday party is supposed to be a place of happiness and harmless fun, right? Well, not this one, especially for Emilia and Stefan, the infamous Salvatore twins. You see, at this specific party, the twins best friend, Lexi, had turned up, surprising them both. But this was going to be the last time they saw her.

Emilia sat next to Lexi at the bar, doing shots for her '17th' birthday. "Three shots of tequila." Lexi ordered, looking around the bar, catching sight of Elena. "Make that four."

"I need to see some ID." The barman said, looking at Emilia suspiciously.

"No you don't." Emilia compelled him.

"That'll be..."

"Free!"

"On the house."

"Thanks!" Lexi smiled as she grabbed the tequila and led Emilia over to Elena, much to her dismay.

"Oh! The famous Elena." Lexi gasped, glancing at Emilia, having heard about what the doppleganger was like from both the twins, meaning she had two different opinions.

"Towel girl." Elena greeted Lexi, nodding civilly at Emilia.

"I've been called worse. Here." Lexi offered Elena one of the tequilas.

Elena took the drink. "I didn't know that you guys could drink." She said, becoming curious about the vampiric lifestyle.

"Oh yeah, it helps curb the cravings, but makes for a lot of lusty vamps." Emilia explained.

Elena laughed. "You know, I've never seen Stefan drunk. He always seems so..."

"Uptight?" Lexi finished for her.

Elena nodded. "Yeah."

"Yeah." Emilia agreed.

"But not with you two." Elena looked a bit hurt by this.

"Well that is the benefit of knowing someone for over a hundred years. You can just be yourself."

"Yeah, he can't be himself with me." Elena said sadly.

"Well not yet. The first step was him telling you. The rest comes with time." Lexi said, feeling sorry for the girl.

"You seem so sure." Elena said, wary of the words that were coming out of both the vampires mouths.

"The love of my life was human. He went through, what I imagine you're going through: denial, anger, et cetera. But at the end of the day, love really did conquer all." Emilia looked at Elena's tequila. "Are you going to drink that?"

"Go for it." Elena said, letting Emilia take the drink. "I'm scared." The girl admitted.

"But you're here... 'cause you're crazy about him, I get it okay? I mean what's not to love." Emilia looked over at Stefan.

"Listen. Take it from someone who's been around a long time. When it's real, you can't walk away." Lexi finished, smiling at her friend.

"You know what, I'm gonna go over to Stef, see if he wants one." Emilia quickly gulped down her shot before going over to the pool table where her twin brother was, the conversation becoming too awkward for her.

As she left, Emilia drank the last tequila, as she returned to the pool table where Stefan and Conrad were playing. "Yep, I drank yours, sorry."

Stefan smiled at his twin sister. "Thank you."

Emilia understood what he was thanking her for straight away. "You weren't supposed to be listening." When she saw her face, she brushed off what she said. "I was feeling epic, whatever."

After several minutes of playing pool with Conrad, Emilia got distracted by the commotion that was taking place outside. "What's going on?" She asked, looking up at Conrad.

"I don't know. But something does not feel right." Conrad admitted. "Shall we go find out?"

Outside, the officers and the Sheriff were taking Lexi to the police car when she threw the officers off. Sheriff Forbes shot her with wooden bullets, but Lexi was too strong. Out of nowhere, Damon appeared and staked her. Conrad saw and pulled Emilia out of sight from the scene, but it was too late.

"Oh my god!" Emilia said in shock, tears beginning to fall."Conrad! He killed her. My brother killed Lexi!"

The next morning, Emilia and Conrad walked into their history class early, hand in hand, only to find that there was a new teacher sitting there. It wasn't surprising when you think about it, the school needed a new history teacher since Tanner... you know... Well anyways, after Emilia and Conrad have a conversation soley with facial expressions about the new teacher, they gave the conclusion to give it a shot.

"Good morning everyone. Alrighty" Alaric said, nervous about teaching his first class at Mystic Falls High School, especially after what happened to the last teacher, and what Alaric knows about the innocent-looking town of Mystic Falls.

His eyes gazed over the whole class, analysing them all, one by one.

Jock, will never hand in work.

Teacher's pet, will be the one to ask for extra work.

Then his eyes fall upon Elena, he is stunned by the resembences he can see between this girl, and his late wife, Isobel, not to mention his daughter, Jess, who was sitting in the middle row on the left, blowing bubbles in gum, as usual. At least when his gaze turned to her, they made eye contact and she gave him a reassuring smile and a thumbs up, before he went back to the class.

"Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was borned and raised in Boston, and before I came here, I was living in North Carolina. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronouce in A-laric but its Alar-ic, okay? So you can call me Ric. I'm your new history teacher.

Little did he know the chain reaction that had started, the minute he stepped foot into Mystic Falls with his daughter.

The rest of the class flew by, mostly spent figuring out what the class had already done, and beginning to know some of there names. Including Stefan Salvatore, the boy who wouldn't keep his eyes off Jess, and seemed to know the history topic in a freaky amount of detail.

Jeremy Gilbert walked into the history classroom and greeted Alaric, who was eating his lunch at his desk. "Hey Mr. Saltzman, I'm Jeremy Gilbert. You wanted to see me?"

Alaric finished chewing and set down his sandwich. "You know that your old teacher had a jackass file? No joke." He held up the file. "It's typed on the label. It has all the troublemakers in it. But really it's just an opus - to you." As he said this, Jeremy looked at him in alarm. "Don't worry about it." Alaric threw the file in the trashcan. "I'm not him. Clean slate. Now...let's talk about grades."

"I know it's been a rough couple of months, but I've been trying to turn them around." Jeremy explained, trying to give a reason as to why his grades were so bad.
