Resentment

He watched as she paced around in the grass and vented out loud to the shrubs. He saw the multicolored blossoms turn from rainbow to red. Anger was emitted from every fiber of her being in waves, yet Killian couldn't help but love her more.

He had watched her for years. He watched as her family continued to believe she was an innocent bird, too young to leave the nest and fly. He watched the conflicts that their actions resulted in. She became a fire, a roaring flame rather then the shy and timid girl everyone believed her to be. He knew everything about her, and could read her like a book with just one glance.

Killian knew that Emma craved adventure. He knew she longed for love. He also knew that she felt irrelevant and unimportant.

Emma had the power to control the growth of plant life in addition to basic light magic. Most inhabitants of Mount Olympus lived there to watch how their actions effected the mortals on Earth. They looked down through the clouds to see if people were happy or suffering. Emma's mother could grow food, without her, mortals would die. Her father controlled the sky, depending on his mood, people ether live or suffer. Emma could grow plants.

She felt useless because all she could do was control how beautiful gardens were. It did not influence life or death, only satisfaction. When she was moody no one felt the effects of her wrath. The flowers near her simply changed to match her feelings.

However, to Killian, Emma created beauty. She could summon something from nothing. She was light.

And he was dark.

So he watched her. He loved her childish antics. He loved how she never obeyed the orders given to her. He loved her powers, her grace, her beauty. He loved her.

But he was the embodiment of death and darkness. And she was light.

Killian Jones was King of the Underworld. He lived in Hell. Literally Hell. He sent souls to their resting place for all of eternity. He tortured those that deserved it. And he loved it. He was a monster. He was evil.

He knew Emma would never return his affections, for how could someone who gave off such light care for someone so dark? So he cloaked himself in darkness and watched her. He stayed hidden in the shadows, listening to her every word.

He hated to see the one he loved so miserable. He noticed the minute she gave up and slumped to the ground. He could read her mood perfectly because he knew her, so the change in flower variety was of no surprise to him. He gasped as she changed out of the pink frilly ball gown into a more comfortable riding outfit. She was stunning.

She sat for ages, and for as long as she sat, he watched, completely in awe of her beauty. Her features were striking, bright sunshine hair and emerald eyes framing a porcelain face.

Suddenly, a voice broke through the silence. Killian recognized it. The voice belonged to Emma's mother. She was chiding Emma for her actions and ordering her to come back inside.

Emma then stood and rolled her eyes at her mother. With a flick of her wrist, she was now wearing brown leather riding boots and holding a sword. Emma strapped the sword to her waist and moved to the center of her garden. She waved her hand again, causing all of the red petunias to disappear.

"Mother if you truly believe I will marry that oaf, then you are crazy. Absolutely fucking nuts!" Emma shouted as she crossed her arms and turned to face away from where her mothers voice was coming from.

Killian watched with interest as Emma's mother, Mary Margret, drew nearer and nearer to her daughter.

When Emma was within sight of her mother, Mary Margret couldn't help but gasp.

"Dear Gods! Emma what are you wearing? I thought I raised you better than that! And what is this language I hear coming from your mouth? It is foul! Graham will never love you if you act like this! He is..."

By this point Killian could tell that Emma had had enough. To further his point, she turned around to face her mother and looked right into her eyes.

Emma was beyond annoyed. Her mother was doting, but also a fool. Emma raised her hand, and within seconds was engulfed by grey smoke. When the fog cleared, she was gone. However, in her place, a deep purple colored petunia lay rooted in the soil.

Mary Margret bent over and plucked it from the ground. The flower symbolizes resentment, clearly how Emma currently feels towards her mother.

Mary Margret tossed the flower aside in disgust and made her way back to the meeting room, presumably to negotiate the terms of the marriage in Emma's absence. Killian looked on in disdain. Emma was precious and here they treated her like trash.

Mary Margret did not attempt to look for her daughter again. She could be anywhere on Earth or Olympus when she poofs away with her magic. Although Killian knew that Emma was on Earth interacting with the living to calm down, he preferred the company of the dead.

He summoned his staff and struck the ground with it. The crack he created glowed with red hot magma and molten rock, but the center stretched far down into darkness. His last thought before jumping in and returning to the kingdom of darkness that he lived in was:

That's my girl.
