It was 8:30pm on April 21st. Phoebe was reading one of the news articles in her father's newspaper and was sitting on the white sofa with the Ouija board next to her, waiting for her friends to arrive. She couldn't wait to use the board.
"I am so excited! I wonder if we will meet any real ghosts. I hope so." Phoebe said to herself, looking at the dusty board. Then, she heard the doorbell ring. She got up from the couch and walked to the front door.
"Hey guys!" Phoebe greeted as she opened the door. "Come in! Come in! I am so glad to see you guys. Would you like to get started?" Everybody nodded their heads while they took a seat at the round, wooden dining table near the big bookshelf. Phoebe left the room to go get the Ouija board. When she came back she set it right in the middle of the table.
"Now, before we start, we have to look over the rules on how to do this." Explained phoebe. "What? Rules? How come we just can't play?" Sofia whined.
"Well, my auntie said that we should read the rules just to be safe. She said it was dangerous if we don't follow them correctly." Replied phoebe, pointing at the board.
"Rules, rules. Let's just have some fun. What's the worst that could happen?" Said Sofia, convincingly.
"Yeah I guess you are right." Phoebe replied once more. She then put the instructions and rules down on the floor beside her chair. She then guided two of everyone's fingers to the plastic, triangular shaped token that was in the middle of the board.
"Now move he curser very gently in a circle and ask if there is any spirits here with us." Instructed Phoebe. All at once, they said those very words. Suddenly, the curser stopped and then moved to the "yes", ever so gently. Everyone gasped in amazement.
"Did one of you move this?" Asked Jane. "You guys better not be doing this just to try and scare me." The entire group looked at her and shook their heads.
"We are not doing anything" explained Greg. They continued playing and asking questions like, what's your favourite colour and how is the afterlife. Then, Nathan asked a question that would reveal something the group was not expecting.
"Can you show us a sign that you are here in this room with us?" Asked Nathan, daringly. All of a sudden, they heard a loud bang at the front door, like it was just closing by itself. And then they heard knocking all along the walls and heard what sounded like children's laughter. By now, everyone was very spooked out, but still decided to keep going.
Greg then asked, "Are you a boy or a girl?". The board then replied with "B O Y".
"Boy!" Everyone exclaimed. "How old are you?" Asked Jane. "6" Replied the board. Everyone seemed to relax from the fact that the ghost they got in contact with was just an innocent little boy. Or who they thought was innocent. The group was not ready for what was coming up next.
