Chapter Twenty-Seven

Zuko and I had taken Iroh away from the abandoned town, and to an abandoned house just outside the town. I sat and tried to meditate as Zuko watched over Iroh. I was wanting to ask spirits for help with Iroh, but I was struggling to go into the spirit world. Zuko and I then heard a groggy moan bring us to our attention. We both then sat up going over to Iroh "Uncle? Uncle? You were unconscious" Zuko said to his Uncle as we looked down at Iroh worried. "Azula did this to you it was a surprise attack..." I said helping him to sit up "Somehow that's not so surprising," Iroh said making me give a sad smile. Zuko handed Iroh a cup of tea he had made for him "I hope I made it the way you like it?" Zuko said kindly handing Iroh the cup. Iroh took a sip making a face of disgust hiding it from Zuko, Iroh saying "good.." and then forced down the rest. "That was very bracing.." Iroh said with a smile handing Zuko back the cup. "So Uncle I've been thinking... It's only a matter of time before I run into Azula again, I'm gonna need to know more than basic fire bending if I'm gonna want to stand a chance against her. I know what you're going to say she's my sister and I should be trying to get along with her." Zuko said with a grimace Iroh shook his head "no she's crazy and she needs to go down." he said surprising both of us, but Zuko nodded to his Uncle. Iroh then forced his way up I stood ready to help him if needed."It's time to resume your training." Iroh said with a serious expression. He then started making his own brew of tea. "Lightning is a pure expression of Fire Bending without aggression it is not fuelled by rage the way other Fire Bending is. Some call lightning the cold-blooded fire. It is precise and deadly like Azula. The technique requires peace of mind." Iroh said handing Zuko a cup of tea "I see, that's why we're drinking tea to calm the mind." Zuko said in a calm voice I smiled as Iroh said "Oh yeah good point! I mean yes." Iroh then handed me a cup of tea as well. After finishing our tea we went outside, for the real training to begin. "There is energy all around us both Yin and Yang, Positive energy and negative energy. Only a select few Fire Benders can separate these energies. This creates an imbalance, and if you want to restore balance then as soon as the Negative energy and Positive energy come crashing back together. You provide with ease and guidance which creates lightning." Iroh said then taking in a deep breath before showing a demonstration. It was a powerful strike I was impressed by the power it had. "I'm ready to try it!" Zuko shouted eagerly I worried slightly, but stayed quiet. "Remember once you separate the energies you do not command it you are simply its humble guide. Breathe first." Iroh says to Zuko I shake my head humble? Zuko is not humble at all. I begin to worry as Zuko takes in a deep breath, and starts then motions. When it came time to fire he made an explosion that knocked him back. I facepalmed I saw that coming. Zuko continuously stood, and tried again blowing up every time. He was getting frustrated which was only making it worse. When it exploded for the millionth time he shouted "I can't do it! Instead of lightning it just keeps exploding in my face like everything always does..." he sounded broken it felt great sympathy for him, and I wanted to comfort him if only I knew how. "I was afraid this might happen. You will not be able to master lightning until you have dealt with the turmoil inside you." Iroh said approaching Zuko "What turmoil!?" Zuko shouted defensively Iroh gave a soft glare "Zuko, you must let go of your feelings of shame if you want your anger to go away." Iroh said trying to make Zuko understand. I had now started walking towards them. "But I don't have any shame at all I'm as proud as ever!" Zuko said frustrated Iroh shook his head saying "Prince Zuko, Pride is not the opposite of shame but the source. Humility is the only antidote for shame." Zuko turned away from Iroh and I "well my life has been nothing but humbling lately." he said offending me a little. "I have an idea.." Iroh started "I will teach you a Fire Bending move not even Azula knows. Because I made it up myself." he said smiling causing Zuko to look back and smile at him.
