(Elise's POV)
I couldn't help but cry when she left. Mates aren't supposed to be like this. One of my favorite stories growing up was how my mother and father met. They fell in love and were so happy. They never had problems like these. I'm exhausted from being sick this morning and from crying, so soon I fall back asleep.
When I wake up a few hours later, it's almost noon. I sit up and rub the sleep out of my eyes, looking around Alpha Bridget's room. I almost miss it, but a small pile of candies and flowers sits on a chair to the side with a note.
"I'm sorry for being a..." There are several words crossed out, with the note starting again, "I'm sorry I scare you and I hope this makes you feel better. From, Bridget."
Normally I would enjoy something like this. But I can't take this. I know someone who needs it more. I grabbed a backpack from the bottom of Alpha Bridget's closet and loaded everything into it except one single red rose. That I left on the dresser.
Once I got dressed, I left, taking the backpack with me. I made it to the front door before I was stopped. A young girl, about my age came running up to me as I opened the door.
"Luna! Where are you going?" She asked, brushing a piece of hair from her face. I look away, feeling uncomfortable looking people in the eyes after so many years of not being allowed to. I didn't respond, instead pushing open the screen door and stepping out. The girl follows me out, repeating her question. I didn't really want to talk to her, so I just kept walking towards home. The Packhouse will never be my home. She continues to follow me, although she finally stops asking.
After a while of walking, I made it home and knocked on the neighbors door. The two little kids who lived there came running to the door, their mother moments behind. Their mother, Cecelia, grinned brightly when she saw me, opening the door and pulling me into a hug.
"Elise! Er- I suppose I should call you Luna." She shrugged. I shook my head wildly, "Please, don't. I- uh, I brought some candy and stuff for the kids? I hope you don't mind."
Cecelia's smile widened when I said this and she ushered me inside. Her gaze landed on the girl and her smile wavered a bit. "Who's your friend, Elise?" She asked, looking her over. The girl held out her hand in greeting, "I'm Emerald, or Em. I'm just making sure the Luna stays safe." Cecelia didn't take her hand but nodded, heading inside. Emerald dropped her hand, her cheeks turning red and I sighed, opening the door for her to follow us inside. Cecelia ran a hand through her hair and laughed, looking around her house.
"If I'd have know you were coming I would've cleaned up a little, sorry dear." She laughed, picking up a toy from the floor. My eyes widened when I saw what it was.
"Stuffie!" I cried, laughing as I gently pulled the stuffed elephant from Cecelia's arms. She grinned, watching me as I took the toy from her. "I see you remember your old friend. He won't admit it, but that elephant is Aaron's favorite. But of course, I never told you that."
Emerald watched as I smiled and handed the toy to the little boy, who took it and ran off. She asked, "You gave them your old toys? I could never part with mine." Cecelia's eyes shot to her and she said stiffly, "I'm not paid enough for the kids to get toys, both mine and Emmett's pay goes to keeping this house running. I'm eternally grateful for Elise and Aydan's gifts to my family." Emerald's face went red again and she floundered for a moment, her mouth opening and closing before simply nodding.
I pull the backpack out and dug out the candies and flowers, handing them all to Cecelia. She sets the gifts on the table and gave me an enormous hug. I smile as she does this, returning the hug. After a moment, Emerald clears her throat. "Luna, the Alpha wishes for you to return."
Cecelia huffs loudly and releases me, "I suppose you have things to do. But you'll visit?" I nod and hug her one last time before leaving. Emerald follows me back to the Packhouse without saying a word and leads me to Alpha Bridget's office before leaving. I knock and wait till she calls for me to come in before entering.
She sits behind the large desk, typing rapidly at a computer before glancing up at me. "You left the Packhouse and you tried to leave without anyone. Em tells me you didn't speak to her the entire time." I nod. No reason in denying it. If she's going to punish me, I might as well tell the truth instead of getting in trouble for lying.
Alpha Bridget continues, "You went to the Omega homes. Why?"
I dropped the backpack where I stood and brushed a short hair from my face, "To pass on a gift to another. The chocolate and candies you left me. I gave them to Cecelia Mont for her two children, Aaron Mont and Zinnia Mont. I have no need of such things. They do."
Alpha Bridget rolled her eyes, "Really, Elise? I got that stuff for you and you just gave it away. And to Omegas, nonetheless. They don't deserve the treats. They don't do anything."
At this, a burst a rage burned through me.
"Excuse me for my insolence, Alpha, but that family works incredibly hard. Cecelia Mont works in the pack orchard, tending to the apples and Emmett Mont works as a secretary for the Beta family. They are both up at dawn and often work until dusk. Yet they still don't have enough to give their children things like chocolate or candy for fun. You gave me those things on a whim to make me feel better. I gave them to someone who deserved them more." I spat, my fists clenching.
Alpha narrowed her eyes and snapped, "Anybody could do their jobs. Plus the young ones don't even work. Why do the parents inherently deserve treats for their children for doing what they're required to do?"
I snarl loudly and pick up the empty backpack. I know it is childish, but it does not stop me from punting the empty backpack across the room towards her, though she easily ducks out of the way with a growl. I snap angrily, "Fine, if that's the way you think the world is, then we will all get what we deserve, myself included."
With that, I stormed out of the room and downstairs. Alpha yelled for me to come back, but I ignored her, going outside. When I reached the first floor, I stormed outside and behind a tree before shifting into my wolf. Alpha was leaning out of her office window, watching me angrily as I bared my teeth at her before running into the forest.
