I tried to wipe my tears from my face so Newt wouldn't see, but it didn't work. He walked over, with the tampon in his hand, all worried. I just stared at the ground, not knowing what to say. Did he see Gally? Is my face red from him hitting me? Will you give me the tampon already?!
"August."
Newt spoke in a gentle and concerning tone.
"August. What happened?"
I could not let him find out about Gally. Everyone would belive Gally and he wouldn't be banished so the abuse would just get worse. I needed to say something before Newt noticed though. So I look up at him with glossy eyes and spoke shakily.
"N-n-nothing."
That was convincing. I internally slapped myself. How could I be so stupid? Then Newt spoke in the most comforting tone.
"August love, I know you're lying. Please, just tell me. You can trust me."
Did he just call me love? No no no it's a British thing, he probably calls Minho love.
"I told you nothing."
Then I took the tampon from him and ran into the stall, slamming the door behind me. Silently crying about this terrible place.
