I trudge to my locker as other kids file out of their classes. The day was finally over. A sigh flows out of my mouth as someone pushes me to the side. I recover quickly. Being smaller than most people here, I've learned to get back up quickly when I'm shoved.
I roll my eyes as I see who is standing near my locker. It was Kyle. Kyle has been my assigned bully for two years now. He's been my main attacker. It makes me wonder if there's a secret bully organization, and they all choose their victims. It would make sense. No one else has harassed me as much as him. His job isn't that hard, unless Buffy is there, I do whatever he wants.
"What do you want, Kyle?" I ask as I walk up to my locker.
"I need you to do my homework," he responds.
"It's the first day of school! What homework do you have?" I ask, arching an eyebrow at him. I turn back to my locker, entering the code.
He slams his hand on the locker next to mine, hissing, "Don't talk back to me." Not gonna lie, I'm kinda scared. I stare at the vein popping out of his forehead, willing it to go away. "I need you to do my summer work. It's due tomorrow."
I feel a remark coming out of my mouth, so I bite my tongue. "Fine," I mutter. He has two months to do this, and he wants me to finish it all in one day. "Dumbass," I add under my breath when he turns around.
"What did you say?" Kyle asks, turning back around to face me.
"Yo, Cyrus!" TJ says right as I start to prepare my plan to run away with minimal injuries. "What's up, man?" He walks over to me and slings an arm over my shoulders. "Hey, Kyle."
"TJ," Kyle replies, nodding his head respectfully. "We're not done yet, Goodman."
"Yes, actually, you are," TJ replies, maintaining a cheery tone in his voice. Somehow, that made him scarier. "Or else," he adds as his voice darkens, "you'll regret it." I see Kyle gulp before muttering a "sorry" and walking away.
"Thanks, but you didn't need to do that," I tell him, shrugging his arm off my shoulders. "I was handling that fine."
"Yeah, if by 'fine' you mean being bullied, you totally were," he scoffs.
I slam my locker closed. "What are you doing?"
"Practice," he replies, smirking a little. I shrug and follow him.
If this is what it's going to be like all the time, I don't think I want to do this again.
"Okay, so we're going to the park to practice basketball," TJ announces as we get to his car. "Hop in."
"You can drive?" I ask, opening the car door and jumping in.
"Yeah, I'm 16," he replies. The silence in the car is awkwardly loud.
"Can I play some music?" I ask him, reaching for the aux cord. He nods his head as I play some Panic! At The Disco. "Girls/Girls/Boys" is the first one to play, causing me to cringe. It's not a great first song to play with someone. Especially since they don't know about... me.
