Karkat glanced out the window, his copy of the notebook resting in his hands, there was a gentle tap against the window and he jumped out of the daze. Karkat smiled, burying his face into his knees as he brought them up to his chest, he set the romance novel next to him. He listened to the rain, humming a song that Dave would sing to him whenever the rain would roll in, his ear perked up as he heard the thunder roar in the distance. The troll felt his heart racing as he sprung up and dashed towards the couch, throwing his body on it and curling up into a little ball. He shuffled around on the sofa, digging to find Dave's cape under all the blankets, he pulled out the red fabric and wrapped himself in it, tears already forming in his eyes as he rocked back and forth, trying to distract himself from the noises outside. There was another loud crash in the distance, almost like a whip coming at Vantas, it felt as if time stood still. The noises of the storm kept on

Karkat did his very best to keep himself from screaming, "Why is Dave gone, why why why?" He repeatedly asked himself as he rocked, tears tinted red dripping down his freckle covered face. The room started closing in on him as his deep breaths began to get shorter and sharper, there was nothing that scared a Vantas more than thunder. "P-Please come home, Dave." Karkat whimpered as the house shook and he snuggled up closer to Dave's cape. The house of the couple was overwhelmed with darkness, a scream escaped the trolls mouth as he covered his watery eyes with the human's cape. He scrambled to find the remote, any light source would help the nervous wreck of a troll right now, he hit the power button and the television turned on in a flash.

Karkat's half opened eyes locked their gaze onto the front door, hoping that if he stared long enough, Dave would just appear and make everything better, just like he always does. There had been no call, no message even no pester from Dave. This is when the crabby boys true emotions broke loose, he began to sob, the sound of his pathetic crying being covered up by loud booms of thunder with the occasional wheeze of the broken troll following a sob. Suddenly, the front door flew open and Karkat screeched again, almost falling of the couch as he stood on the sofa, sickle drawn up. The blade shined in the T.V light, the mutant spoke no words as the living room light flicked on. Standing there soaked in rain was his boyfriend, Dave Strider, "Sorry it took me so long, I heard the storm coming in and knew I needed to get back to you." He explained, those were the words to send him even deeper into tears. The grey skinned set the weapon on the table, dragging himself over to Dave and breaking down at his feet.

"Hold me, Dave, Hold me." He begged, staring up at the concerned Strider. Karkat felt his entire body shaking, "Hey hey, Don't cry kitkat, Dave's okay, he's fine." Dave sympathized with his lover as he crouched down and kissed his cheek. "Let's go put on some Pj's and cuddle okay, karks?" Dave asked and Karkat just nodded his head, feeling too weak to even speak. He was supposed to be strong, he was the one to lead the group. Dave had broken through the wall of anger, he had shown Karkat a love that no one else had, Vantas had never felt so vulnerable in his entire life. Dave opened the door to their bedroom, grasping Karkat's hand with his free one. "I'll hug you as soon as I can karkles." Dave expressed as he saw the dread in Karkat's face.

There was another crash of thunder and Karkat covered his face with his hands, sliding down against the wall behind him. Dave came out of the bathroom, wearing a pair of red sweatpants and a white shirt. His eyes darted around the room in search of his sobbing boyfriend, Dave's red orbs glared upon the troll. Thunder boomed and Karkat threw himself into Dave, the human wrapped his arms around Karkat and gently kissed the top of his head. "You'll be okay, Kar, I have you." Dave tried to ease the mind of his distressed kitten. Dave had a loving instinct that no one truly understood but Karkat. Dave was there for this bratty, emotional roller coaster that was Karkat Vantas every step of the way, he was always gentle and accepting and he loved so unconditionally. "Come on babe, let's go to the couch." Dave said to Karkat in a sweet voice, almost as if he was talking to a child. "Dave, wait.." Karkat croaked and Strider's glance turned towards him, his head tilted. "I love you" Karkat spoke softly, Dave stood in awe for a moment as his arms went right back around Karkat's waist. "I love you too." Dave replied as he planted a kiss on Karkat's lips. Dave had swept Karkat off his feet, literally and metaphorically. Dave strolled off to their love seat, another crack of thunder rumbled through the air and the frightened troll wrapped his arms tighter around Dave, "It can't get you baby." Dave murmured into Karkat's ear.

The black haired boy's wailing continued, it felt as if he couldn't stop it, his candy red tears stained his humans shirt as Dave plopped down. "I'll keep you safe, you won't be leaving my arms okay." Dave suggested and the troll threw him a pout, "D-Dave, it's gonna get me, You know it will." A whimper followed as Dave laid down and patted the spot next to him, "Lay next to me." Dave grunted, he was slowly drifting off. Karkat's small hands took off Dave's mask, folding them closed and setting them on the night stand. Karkat laid next to Dave, snuggling against him for warmth, his head resting on Dave's chest, their legs intertwined. Dave's speech was slurred as he sang "Broken Record" By Atlas, the song that brought the two together in the first place. "I love you Karks." The blonde said under his breath, Karkat gave him a cheeky grin and kissed him, "I love you too strider."
