"So when do you get out of here?" He asked.

"I don't know." I grumbled.

He sighed, "So much for our picnic."

Hey, I have to ask you a question." I said.

"Shoot."

"Well today when you took me to the lake and-" He cut me off.

"Vanessa I thought we agreed we would forget that."

"No but you have to listen to me." I protested.

"Vanessa, it was a little mistake okay? Yes, it happened but that doesn't change anything. We are best friends and that will never change."

"Just listen to me!" I pleaded.

"Please, forget that ever happened."

"I can't." I sighed.

"Please just try." He begged.

I huffed and pulled my hand away. Why are people so damn difficult! If he would just LISTEN to me then he would understand!

"Im sorry." He apologized.

"Don't be, theres nothing to be sorry about." I said just above a whisper.

"Yes there is."

"No there's not." I argued.

"If I would've never..." He trailed off.

I rolled my eyes, but he didn't see.

"Yeah well don't be sorry, it's fine." I said.

"I should've never left." He laughed sadly.

"Don't you dare go blaming yourself for this!" I yelled.

"Who else am I going to blame!?"

"That monster out there!" I lowered my voice, pointing to the door.

"I know he doesn't like me." He said.

"HE DOESNT LIKE ANYONE!" I yelled/whispered, lowering my hand.

"Who doesn't like anyone?" My dad asked as he walked in the room.

Immediately Kyle tensed.

"No one." I said.

"Didnt sound that way."

"Well then I guess you heard wrong." I mumbled.

There was a long pause before he spoke again.

"The doctor said that you don't have a concussion and he will be in to give you your brace then your free to go home " My dad tried to manage a smile.

My stomach turned into an uncomfortable knot when he said 'home'.

I don't want to go home! I'm better off here!

"Where's mom?" I asked.

"Right outside the door."

"Go get her." I said and he walked out and soon my mother walked in.

"Home?'' I asked.

"Yeah." She smiled her sad smile that I knew so well.

"Can't she just stay at my house?" Kyle asked.

"I'm afraid not." She said.

"I don't want to go home." I groaned.

"Neither do I." She sighed.

"We need to leave him."

"We just can't leave." She said.

"And why not?"

"We just can't, but one day we will."

"You always say that."

"And one day will come when I won't have to."

"I don't want him around." I groaned.

"We'll manage, we're strong."
