Ruby took a deep breath as she climbed on to the bus. The weather outside was hot and damp, making everything sticky and uncomfortable. The bus was full of annoyed kids, squirming and talking far too loudly for 7:00 in the morning. Between the weather and the bus, the day was not off to a good start.

Not like that effected him. No, nothing seemed able to dim Liam's sunshine smile, messy golden hair, or bright laugh. Not even Chubs, sitting next to him and glaring at the world. He seemed especially grumpy today.

Ruby nodded hello to the bus driver- who looked ready to die- and moved towards her usual seat. Sitting down, she pulled out her phone and texted Vida, who usually sat next to her.

Where are you?

A few minutes later, Vida texted back.

Sick. (More like sick of you pining over Liam lol.) Maybe you could actually talk to him today.

Ruby decided not to acknowledge that text. Vida wasn't even sick, she just didn't want to take the math test.

She turned to look out the window, only to find that it was foggy. She sighed. Vida was, as much as she hated to admit it, probably right. Her "small crush" had gotten a little out of hand.

Well, she thought, absently tracing patterns on the foggy window, it isn't like I haven't tried Vida's advice. I just can't talk to him without making a fool out of myself.

In fact, the last time she tried, she ended up mumbling something about "need to wash my math homework" and sprinting away. Cringing at the memory, she traced a sad face on the window.

Then, caught up in her thoughts too much to doubt the idea, she traced:

LIAM STEWART

+

RUBY DALY

Then she turned away from the window and came face to face with Liam Stewart himself.

Liam watched Ruby sit down, daydreaming about running his fingers through her long dark hair. Chubs was saying something about his sick girlfriend, but Liam was too far gone to care.

"She says she's sick, but she's probably just trying to get out of the math test... Are you even listening?" Chubs interrupted himself, leveling Liam with a glare.

"Hmm? Um, yeah... Sick girlfriend, math test, I heard you." Liam said with what he hoped was a convincing smile.

"You were thinking about Ruby again, weren't you?"

"Um... Maybe? "

"Don't lie to me. You had that stupid grin on your face again. Look, just ask her out. I promise she'll say yes." Chubs said, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"I don't know... I think I scare her."

Chubs muttered something about too early for this.

"Just go sit with her. Actually, I'm ejecting you from this seat. I'd rather sit with Zu anyway."

When the bus stopped, Chubs put Liam's backpack in his hands and pushed him towards Ruby's seat. Liam glared back at him, but it clearly wasn't very impressive, as Chubs just raised an eyebrow.

Liam walked over to her, and was about to ask if he could sit, when he saw what she had traced on the window. Their names. Together.

Then she turned around, and he was staring into her shocked green eyes.

"Oh! I- uh- Liam! " she stuttered, erasing the writing on the window.

He smiled.

"Would you like to go out with me?"

Ruby's mouth fell open, then she grinned back. She patted the seat next to her.

"Yes. Would you like to sit here?"

Finally done! Special thanks to @KeeperSquadWrites for giving me the prompt to do this.

I'm really sorry that it's so short, high school is heck, and I have sooooo much work.

I might do an extra part to this story, but don't count on it, because I'm a mess.
