The concept for today was given to me by a really good friend (she's like family to me) and we said an angsty ending would be good, but I know people aren't always comfortable reading that, so I put the fluffy ending first, and the angsty ending below it. So, if you want to read it you can. :)
Enjoy.

Roman smiled at his fellow traits, they'd been through everything together, and they meant everything to him. He couldn't begin to describe how much he loved them.

He didn't mean to get them in that situation, he couldn't help who he was, and he knew he was a bad friend.

He looked at the traits around him, tears filling his eyes. He looked at the swords at their necks, and he felt the sword pressed against his own neck. He sighed and averted his gaze away from them. The vial was heavy in his pocket. He didn't want to give it up, but he couldn't let his family die.

He scanned their faces. Virgil's eyes were wide, and he was fearful. His hands were shaking by his side, and he was doing his best to hold it together. Logan had no emotion showing on his face, but Roman could tell he was scared. Patton looked scared, but stood tall, and refused to back down.

He surveyed the scene, there was no way out, not without the vial being given up. He nodded slightly.

"Okay." His voice didn't waver, his stance didn't falter, and he watched as the swords held against his family were lowered.

"Hand over the Vial." The masked male spoke to him, and he lifted his hand from his pocket, the vial in hand. He opened his hand, and it lay in his palm.

The gloved hand covered the glass, and took it from his hand. "Let's go." The leader of the group spoke, not making a move to stop the male holding the sword to his neck.

"He comes with us." The leader spoke again, directing his statement at the other sides. Roman felt his heart drop.

"That was not the promise." He spoke up. Glaring at the masked rebel.

"You for your friends. That was the deal."

"No. The vial for our lives. If you are going to take me, you might as well kill me, it's what you were planning anyway, right?"

"We need more of the substance in this vial."

"I will make you a deal." He stood up more, looking the leader dead in the eyes. "Once a month, I will meet you here, and I will give you another vial of it, there will be no more violence, no more hostility. A vial a month for our lives and freedom from the violence."

"Deal."

As the four of them walked away, Virgil turned to Roman and took his hand. "You idiot." He sighed, shaking his head. "You could have died."

"As long as you three are safe, I don't care."

"Well, we care about you, so stop being so reckless." Patton chastised.

"Okay. I'm sorry. I just... I'm so used to protecting everyone else, I'm not used to being protected. I didn't mean to worry you. I love you all."

He pulled them all in for a hug, and they resumed their walk back to the mind.

That day, the four of them walked away with only a little anxiety left over, but every month, they would make sure the four of them went with Roman, to make sure he came back safe and didn't do anything stupid. He loved them, and they knew it, but he would always risk something for their safety, even if it meant his life was lost.

ANGSTY ENDING:

T.W. Death. Angst. All that great stuff. Sorry in advance. Aha

He looked at the traits around him, tears filling his eyes. He looked at the swords at their necks, and he felt the sword pressed against his own neck. He sighed and averted his gaze away from them. The vial was heavy in his pocket. He didn't want to give it up, but he couldn't let his family die.

"No. The vial for our lives. If you are going to take me, you might as well kill me, it's what you were planning anyway, right?"

The rebel beside him glanced at the leader, who nodded. "Fair enough, kill them all."

"No. Just me."

"Roman, what are you doing?" Patton hissed, standing his ground, refusing to walk away without him.

"I'm saving you. I love you all." He felt his tears fall freely, and he looked down. "My life for you to be free."

"No. You can't do this." Virgil screamed, trying to run forward, only to be held back by Logan. "You can't do this, let me go, stop it Roman. Please?" Virgil sobbed, looking at the side he had always adored.

"I have to." In that moment, Roman felt guilty. He didn't want it to be this way.

"If you kill him, you kill us all." Logan spoke up, causing Roman to send him a glare.

"No."

"Get on with it." The leader ordered his men, and they pushed the four sides together.

"Why would you do that, you could have gone." Roman hissed at Logan, who sent him a pointed glare.

"Because I refuse to live without you. We all refuse to live without you."

"Maybe you should have. It would have been safer. They need me. They don't need you."

Before anymore words were spoken, four swords were driven into the stomachs of each of the sides. Roman gasped in pain, and without thinking, he pulled Patton close to him, and watched as a few tears hit his face. He did the same with Virgil and Logan, and watched as their wounds healed.

With his dying breath, he murmured an "I love you" and closed his eyes for the last time.
